Derrick Rose.
If you're going to make Dunn compete for his spot, make him compete with someone who can tutor him too, but, also, for a time, supplant him, yet, play 6th man if Dunn improves.
The box office argument sells itself.

That really isn’t that high for a point guard like Rubio. Plus he is a higher usage player who always has a higher assist %.

If you're a bottom 3 team yes but we're the 4th worst team currently and actually have slightly better odds to win a top pick than we would have with the previous draft odds.

Exactly. Big difference from a 24 year old PG to build on and a 32 year old Collison.

Not interested in this. Be patient and wait until we find a longterm PG. We don't need a 30+ year old PG right now.

Tank is over when our young talent is too good that we can actually make the playoffs without any veterans helping us get there. We're not there yet. Not even close.

Your strategy is both illogical and unrealistic.
And if you don't find a long term PG for 3 years...you just roll with what you have?
If we don't draft Ja, who is your PG? Dunn?

At that point you have a small window to build something significant with lauri and Lavine and porter and whoever we pick up in the draft this year, because soon lauri deal is due, and we need something great in place before then, to take advantage of the fact he on his rookie deal. Once he gets his big deal we won't have much room to sign anyone and we would then have to try and trade big contracts or have lauri and no one else here on the roster. And for the sake of earnings you just can't be that bad that long.
We can field a pretty good team next season, not a title contender, but a great core that may grow to a title contender. There are guys out there who fill our needs and we getting a high draft pick plus have pieces already in place. We can be in a good place if we make the proper changes
Lauri's rookie contract expires summer 2021 so there's 2 years time to resign him.
Of course GarPax can ask already what-kind contract Lauri is looking for starting season 2021-2022.
I don't know when is last possible timeline or schedule to resign Lauri but it's no number1 priority next season ( 2019-2020).
If i should guess GarPax and Lauri and Lauri's agent will start official contract negotiations in summer 2020 or autumn 2020.
and imo, that is not a long time, thats this off season and next trade deadline, next off season. that is how long we have to put together a quality core to go into the future with. not even only thinking of the cap space, but also looking at guys like lauri and then whoever we pick this year, ready to push their way off this team as most players are not going to want to remain on a team that is year 3 and then 4 and then 5 tanking tanking and tanking. we could end up with a porzingas situation with lauri. not saying we should have a title team, but at least a core 8 we can form as the foundation, we are at 4 in that core now, lavine, lauri, carter jr, porter jr and maybe denzel valentine, but he may be going. whoever we pick up in the draft this year will probably be another core piece. so it would be good to use the cap space this off season to add another core piece that fills a need. point is, we dont have the time to keep tanking year after year, especially if the end results are always not landing the best in the draft that can push the needle for the franchise and simply has a solid role player ceiling.
Yeah two years isn't long time and of course what earlier Bulls resign Lauri that's better.
You're right on that some player who are playing in Bulls right now probably won't stay if tanking continues another 2 or 3 years.
GarPax needs to do everything to avoid next Porzingis situation with Lauri.
It's no secret there are other NBA teams like Mavericks, Magic etc who will grab Lauri if he comes available.
Lauri is very big piece of Bulls future and if GarPax screws him out of Chicago that has to be their final mistake ever.
Before Bulls is NBA championship contender it will take years and becoming NBA champion isn't a sprint it's a marathon.

I voted other. I’m not sure if D’Angelo Russell is attainable, but I would act quick (while everyone is waiting for the max guys to land) and test the Nets resolve, considering Dinwiddie just got a new deal.

derrick rose is basically a shooting guard at this point too
He's never been a primary ballhandler on his team. Giannis, Middleton, and now Bledsoe all place in front of him in usage, and at most he was 3rd before Bledsoe got there. In fact, he has more usage this season than he did in his first 2 seasons.
I don't see how you can use that to call him a bad passer.

Re: Pick your free agent PG
Rubio is probably your best bet all things considered. Guys like Rose and Brogdan aren't really PG's and aren't helping the development of our young guys.
KC: Do you still think you're a championship-caliber team?
Gar: I never said that and correct me if I'm wrong.
KC: You were asked that question at the news conference announcing Thibodeau's dismissal and you answered yes

ya, lets do one of those asik poision contracts, if nothing else make them pay up to keep him, but I suspect that he won't be getting the brush off from the nets along the lines of "go ahead an test the waters" I think they will make an offer pretty quickly to eliminate any issues there. I know I would, they still have the rich russian owner right? < the only one so far not connected to the trump campaign from what I can tell. edit: nevermind, 10 seconds on google showed that cnn has already mentioned him.

Re: Pick your free agent PG
I said Rozier. I think age wise he fits best, he has decent outside shooting, and good handles. I know that he hasn't had a long stretch of success yet, and that means you don't know for sure what you are getting, but hopefully that keeps him cheaper too.

YES!! That's such a dream of mine. To see another player-coach in professional sports. In NBA, if there is one guy out there that could do that role, it's Rondo
(I'd even be jazzed if he was player-coach and convinced Thibs to be an assistant/associate coach (just there for defense).

Re: Pick your free agent PG
Ricky Rubio is the absolute last person you want off this list. OK, maybe Rondo.
Regardless, the next PG has to be a threat when he doesn't have the ball. Chicago isn't looking for someone to completely run the offense and have Lavine, Markannen, etc. just standing around.

While you don't want them standing around, you do want a floor general that makes good decisions with the rock, and gets everyone into the offense in a timely fashion. I think the off-ball threat needs to be good three-point shooting (a knock on Rubio)....but we need a primary ball-handler. Dunn isn't it, I don't want Zach in that position full time.
Collison is probably the best fit, but we need a 25 year old Collison, not a 32 year old Collison. I'm not sure if he wants to come here and lead a bunch of kids instead of going to a contender at this point in his career.

Re: Pick your free agent PG
If we just stick with Dunn and don't land Morant in the draft ... then I like Collison.
I think he could be had at a decent price and a good length of contract. I think he'd add good qualities himself towards the make-up/direction of the team. Spacing, off-ball qualities, defense. He's played really well next to Oladipo last two years, would think he can play off of and with Lavine pretty well. And he's a good experience vet that can both push Dunn and mentor him a little on how to be both an off-ball PG and how to take the opportunities you have to orchestrate the offense.
If we draft Morant then I'd love Rondo.
Dragic and Russell (wasn't on list ... presuming he's in an expense above our range right now?) would be interesting if we just want to go for an out-right started and relegate Dunn to 3rd guard.
Rose is always on the table for me too

Re: Pick your free agent PG
My pick would be to try and sign Brogdon to an offer sheet. Maybe something like 4/60M with the 4th year being a player option.
But a quick question, it seems pretty fair to classify Brodon as a good to ery good 3&D PG. But since he only gets 3.5 assists PG is that an indicator he cannot facilitate?
