What I find interesting is that this board is completely jacked up over these signings. Yet in years past when either of us advocated spending some FA coin to help either Favre or Rodgers, there was a cascade of posts saying “NFL free agency is a fool’s game and Ted understands that”.
I’m glad they are spending some money here. Unfortunately feel though like it may be too late and A-Rod’s window is closed. We’ll see.
One huge difference is in the good TT days signing free agents would have meant not being able to keep internal guys either then or the following season. Most of their cash was spent on extensions. But since they completely **** a few draft classes now they have to use the money on outside players. Good example is the pack signed 3 guys from the 2015 class today but have 0 of the guys they drafted that year left on the roster. Had they made good picks they would have had to spend to keep them.
Draft, develop, and resign is a sound strategy in general. But you need to draft well which they didn't do. It's also bad to become to ridged to any strategy and not use all avenues to improve, a few more FAs or trades mixed in would have helped. I think they also underestimated how much the cap was going to explode the past few years which makes FA and possible cap hell less likely and damning.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.
