If he is, you cut Jerian Grant who is the player least likely on the roster to return next season.
If not, then you have a dilemma.
I see three options.
1) Cut Grant and take your chances with two point guards.
2) Waive Melvin Frazier jr. His contract is guaranteed next year and would be dead weight plus loss of high second-round pick investment on cap. However, he might not picked up and could be re-signed.
3) Cut Timofey Mozgov. He has one year left on his contract after this season. That big expiring could be used in a potential trade next year so it gives The Magic options although I think it is more likely that he would be cut after next year's Trading Deadline or his contract would just be allowed to expire to allot for Issac and Fultz's future extension Luxury Tax wise.
My personal choice would be to cut Grant but if not, I think Frazier should be the one waived.
Frazier is worth keeping in my opinion and Moz.... i'm ok to buy out... but i would prefer to use it than anything as you suggested. Screw it... punt grant... and go into the playoffs with just those two. Push comes to shove....gordon and fournier will be our PG. lol
