That would be quite cool

I’m excited for the meat of this season to begin already

It’s all setup right now
How many episodes are there in the season? 8? Were 2 in and it’s still just gathering

j4remi wrote:The battle of Winterfell is all lined up. Seems like we'll get plenty of bodies next week, it's gonna be a painful one. They really went and reminded us of a LOT of the connections between characters, and I think some of it tipped off survivors in a few cases. My guesses for the body count?

Spoiler:
Surviving guesses:
- Bran and Sam: They have to live long enough to confirm that Snow is Targaryen.

- Sansa: They've lined up Sansa to rule the North and the convo with Dany really laid out why Sansa is a key survivor for the endgame.

- The Hound: He's gotta live until he catches the fade with the Mountain.

- Brienne: She and Jamie have to speak their feelings, I don't think the Knighting scene was the closer there.

On the fence:
- Missandei and Grey Work: One dies and one lives imo. I'm leaning toward Missandei being the one to die ("my people are peaceful" being a hint that she'd sacrifice herself rather than fight).

- Jamie: I had this big theory about Jamie dying to protect Bran as a resolution for his story, but that's looking like Theon's role. Jamie feels like he has more to resolve but he covered a lot of ground last night.
- Tyrion: That ominous "one of you will be the hand when this is over" flipped him from a sure thing survivor to a potential casualty.
-- Bronn: Just to throw it in, didn't get the crossbow for both Lannister bros to die before he arrives...I could see him saving one of them though as a last second surprise arrival.

- Arya and Gendry: I'd been counting on these two to wind up together, but then horror movie rules kicked in. They resolved their relationship somewhat here and that awkward moment makes them more easily expendable. I really hope they live though and Gendry carrying on the Baratheon name seems necessary.

- - Dany: If you really wanted a gut punch, it would be Dany dying along with her dragons. That'd also give Cersei the go ahead to attack the North. There's enough there for this to work (she just lost her claim to the throne and the North won't accept her rule) plus it'd line up Jon to receive Light Bringer out of her death. It's unlikely though because everyone has seen the clues that Dany will have a child (I'm guessing she won't die until child birth).

- Gilly: The amount of "crypts are the safest place" comments is a dead giveaway. Plus hiding from the dead that attacking among the dead in the tombs seems like a gimme.

Dead by episode 4:
- Beric: Book spoiler, he's been dead since the Red Wedding basically in the books. I think he'll potentially do something similar to what he did in the books before he died with the Hound as a witness.

- Ed: Felt like that last image of the trio Ed, Snow and Sam was just that. One last look at the guys and how far they came. I suspect his comment about burning the dead was a foreshadow.

- Lyanna Mormont: The least necessary cameo in the episode reminded us that she leads the Mormant clan and refuses to stay off of the battlefield. Usually when a leader ignores sound advice they get Ned Stark'ed and Jorah living would leave House Mormont with a capable replacement. Ned Umber dying let us know that this is no mercy and Ned/Lyanna link would be tragic yet again.

- Tormund: They gave him too much shine this week and also showed how he doesn't really fit with anybody. He's a third wheel with Brienne but also with the Night's Watch and he tends to just be comedy relief...that said...he's awesome and I'd like to see him leading the Wildling's (and maybe the new version of Night's Watch).

- Theon: Yara is still around to rule the Iron Islands; Theon has reached full forgiveness, stood up for himself and now will defend Winterfell which he almost ruined...everything he needs to accomplish has been resolved with the exception of saving Bran. Plus, I think someone has to die in front of the weirwood at Winterfell.

- Yohn Royce and Varys: The two advisors that don't even have roles giving advice any more.

Cool theory I heard:
Not my own but I heard it pointed out that the Night King was no where to be seen. There was no sign of the dragon either. Then Bran basically laid out a strategy of laying a trap for the Night King, but when do plans get laid out and go exactly as expected in fiction? Not often. So what if the real gut punch of this episode is the foreshadowed destruction of King's Landing? While the walker army attacks the North; the Ice Dragon and the Night King attack Kick's Landing (a dragon attack has been foreshadowed a LOT). I think it's a cool idea even if I don't know I subscribe to it. Gotta think about it more...

I don’t think there’s any way The Night King flies to Kings Landing. There’s a million people there, and if he turned them all, the story is over... they’d steamroll thru the whole country. Plus, to write off Cersei n all them so easily wouldn’t be right. Bran also says that he’ll come for him and Jon in the preview for next episode says “the Night King is coming”.

I think some important people gotta go this episode to be realistic. My picks...

Jorah: he pretty much said his goodbyes to Dany and she reiterated that he’s forgiven for all past mistakes. He’ll fight with Heartsbane and do something heroic on his way out to redeem himself/standing in his home land/house.

1 of Brienne or Jaime: getting knighted is def her peak, and Jaime I think could die by doing something heroic enough to be put in the book of good deeds he’s always been concerned about, and dying in the arms of Brienne is a good send off. Plus Arya could use his face after to kill Cersei... both crossing her off the list, and fulfilling Cersei’s prophecy of being murdered by a younger brother.

Grey Worm: that last kiss kinda said it all. His and Missandei’s demeanor during it just spelled tragedy. He planned for the future with her which makes it even worse... like Pacino in Carlitos Way.

Theon: redeemed himself with Sansa, Jon, Yara, and now will with Bran n Winterfell. Looked to be shooting a flaming arrow next episode in the preview so shyt is def going down in the Godswood.. we see Jon there too about to fight.

Tormund: agree with everything you mentioned

Davos: twice in this last episode he mentioned how he survived the Battle of the Bastards and Blackwater Bay with no fighting experience... I think his luck runs out now. Plus he kinda got a second chance to do the right thing by steering the little girl who reminded him of Shireen, out of harms way the way he begged Stannis to do before she died.

Edd: mentioned his death too many times imo.. and it feels like that was the last time we see the old school Nights Watch crew together.

On the dragon attacking King's Landing, I agree that it seems too hard to resolve afterward. But we have seen the destruction of King's Landing foreshadowed a few times, so it's something I think is worth consideration even though I'm skeptical too. Dany and Bran have both seen King's Landing in ashes (or was it snow that the walkers bring with them?) and Cersei does have enough wildfire to blow up the whole damned place (and an army on the sea to escape with). There are ways to make it work, but I won't front that it would be a MASSIVE curveball and just too much of one for me to think it's legit. If they did pull that off though; it would be the shock value of the Red Wedding that Benioff has alluded to earlier.

On your death picks, I can see those all for sure.

I think Jorah or Lyanna Mormont; one dies one, lives to lead the house. So that Jorah pick definitely jives.

On Jamie or Brienne: The one thing that makes me think they might both make it is Cersei witnessing that Jamie loves Brienne at some point. I want that moment badly but I agree that Jamie has pretty much resolved everything and Arya wearing Jamie's face to take out Cersei would be an epic consolation price that I could fully embrace.

The rest, I don't have much to add because you've got it laid out really well.

One thing I do want to mention, is the whole "the people in the crypts are doomed" theory that's floating around could be a reason for Davos, Grey Worm and Sam to go in there and fight (with only one of them actually being capable). That could be how Grey Worm and Davos die, especially Davos with the Shireen-lite girl to protect.

But full reaching here, I think Melisandre will be the reason Davos makes it. She needs redemption for what happened to Shireen, predicted her own death in Westeros and represents one of the few people that could reasonably make a surprise appearance in the episode (Bronn being the other good bet imo). You can chalk that onto the pile of "my wishful thinking theories" though right next to Tormund becoming the Night's Watch commander and leader of the free folk who move in along the wall one.

Yea I think the vision Dany had of King’s Landing/Throne room in ruins (with snow falling), could be a result of her war with Cersei/her dragons causing the damage. I do think all the wildfire was used in the destruction of the Sept, but the Alchemist Guild could have been given orders by Cersei since then to create more.

I agree we’ll see another crazy Red Wedding level event and/or perhaps a Hodor origin event...

It could be the Jon/Azor Ahai prophecy which has him killing Dany (willing sacrifice just as Jon gave his life to save people) to bring about Lightbringer which he uses to kill the Night King... I think that could happen after they lose Winterfell and retreat to the Iron Islands (maybe Theon tells Jon Yara is awaiting them before he gives his life to save them) and they go back to the drawing board, only for Melisandre to arrive and tell Bran about the Azor Ahai prophecy and they explain what must be done to defeat the Night King. That’s one of my guesses, but....

Jenny’s Song that Pod was singing, is about Duncan Targaryen who gave up the throne for his love Jenny (possibly written by Jon’s father Rhaegar) then they end with Jon n Dany in the crypts with the reveal. Jon has stated a few times that he never wanted to be King... same with Lord Commander, so it’s possible he forfeits it for his love for Dany and maybe as a result she proposes they rule side by side?...like Davos suggested in episode 1 (and they replayed in the recap before episode 2).

As for the crypts... that’s def possible. It makes sense for Grey Worm and Davos to save Missandei and the little girl while going out swinging.

i hope not. i wouldn't have liked the show half as much without him. in fact, even with all the evil they've done, all the lannisters are the best actors on the show. they deserved to rule.

But wouldn't it intrigue you to see what he'll look like as a white walker? :) They have a white walker giant already.

An amazing ending I thought up would be....Everyone is dead, one remains to rule the realm after humanity eliminates the White Walkers. Pan to King...... Sandor Clegane....."dammit" .The only one who seeks no power ends up the most powerful of all.

If Arya survives her collection of faces will undoubetly grow. I could see her killing Cersei as Tyrion or Jaimie. Double fullfillment of the Maggie prophecy (the younger sister as the younger brother)
