Man I don't know. We get so thin after a trade of Ayton, Warren, JJ, and #6.
TJ/Okobo, Melton
Book/
Bridges/
Oubre/Bender?
Davis/Holmes
That's a very thin roster, and Ayton can end up being maybe what, 85% of what AD can be, plus obviously whatever else we give up. PLUS, unless we get a promise from AD that he'll stay. It's such a huge risk, and I don't think it works in our favor. More of a spinning the wheels team unless we can swing a starting Caliber PG from somewhere.
Whoever trades for Davis is trading for one year of him. You are not trading for a player, you are trading for a contract. Its just not worth the risk. Davis is going to get moved for much less than we think unless it is to the Knicks or Lakers. Those are the only two teams with good assurances of resigning him.
2 trades that I'd like to get in on with these teams, IF Davis is in fact traded to one of these teams on draft night is:
With New York:
Phoenix would add value as a 3rd team facilitator by sending New Orleans Warren/ the Milwaukee pick/ and a 2021 top 5 protected first.
Phoenix would also send New York- Josh Jackson and 2 future 2nds.
New York gets Davis.( And by adding Davis) They also get both Durant and Irving ( very likely).
Phoenix gets- Kevin Knox and Cap space from moving both Jackson and Warren. Whilst still keeping their pick this year to grab Garland or White???
New York does this in order to make their new package a bit richer and more competitive with now being able to offer:
RJ Barrett/ Dennis Smith Jr/ TJ Warren/ and 4 total first round picks( 2 from Dallas) and two from Phoenix. ( New York basically exchanges Knox for Warren and two additional firsts). One being being a lottery pick in a much deeper 2020 draft.
As opposed to just - Barrett/ DSJ/ Knox and two late firsts from Dallas.
If New York doesn't accept, They will of course risk out on losing Davis to the Lakers. ( Who we can also deal with).
Phoenix does this to get Kevin Knox ( Can play spot minutes at the 4, and who has Arizona ties too!!!) And to clear more cap space for free agency.
They can then renegotiate Johnson's contract to something along the lines of 40 /4. This gives them an extra 10 million in cap space, and Johnson gets more security in making an extra 20 million over the next two years.
And will now head into free agency with upwards of 30-33 million in cap space???
If it's the Lakers:
Phoenix adds-
TJ Warren/ Josh Jackson/Milwaukee pick/ and a 2021 Top 5 protected first.
Lakers get- Davis/ Jackson.
New Orleans gets-
Ball/ Warren ( suns) / Kuzma/ Hart/ 4 first round picks. ( 2 from Phoenix and 2 from the Lakers).
Phoenix gets-
The 4th pick in this draft, And cap space from moving both Jackson and Warren.
We can then use the 4th pick in the draft on Garland or White, And the 6th pick in the draft for Clarke, Reddish, Hachimura, etc.
And most importantly would head into free agency with around 20 million in cap space for free agency ( close to 30 million IF Jones can also renegotiate Johnson's contract to around 10 million per year for more years (offering more security).
