Unless, you don't believe the Knicks have had any discussions with the Pels, they will certainly up some youth and picks in such a deal.
some youth? Mills might pull something similar to what the Knicks gave up for Carmelo.
The Knicks might end up with a soon to be 31 year old, a 26 year old, and a bunch of veterans, who might be one injury away from having to retire.
That would give the Knicks 2 of the top 5 players in the league, with an additional max slot to build the team with another top 15 player or add some depth.
It's nowhere near the Melo trade.
So much easier to build depth than to find players of that caliber. Teams that do have depth have built it with 2nd rounders and smaller deals. I mean even us currently, one of our best assets is a kid we took in the 2nd round.
Our problem with the Melo deal wasn't really the Melo deal, it was that Melo was the best player we had. Having depth around him wasn't going to knock off the Miami Heat. Sorry but Gallinari and Wilson Chandler with Melo or Amare was still not good enough. We lacked star power, not depth. If anything, we actually had solid depth and role players. JR Smith we brought in from China and he turned into 6th man of the year. We had Kidd, Felton, Pablo, KMart, Purple Drank, shyt we had the depth but we were missing star power.
