I read that the Suns are interested ... Actually, wouldn't this be proper grammar: "I read that the Suns
is interested ..." But that just sounds so wrong.
Anyhow, the Suns' front office is interested in Mudiay.
No, it'd still be ARE because of the implied verb-subject agreement, in that there are many people considered to be "sunS." If you had said "the suns franchise is interested," that would be correct because the franchise itself is singular.
Aren't I, however, also implying the existence of the franchise itself when I simply write "The Suns [franchise] ... " Thus, it would be "The Suns [franchise] IS interested in ..." I believe I've consulted with the world's most foremost authority on the subject.
I was hoping to lure you out of Grammar Cave.
The ol' "Implied verb-subject agreement" trick. Is there a rule on when to imply and when not to imply?
