If AD is in a Celtics jersey before Kyrie hits free agency (July) then I doubt Kyrie even thinks about going anywhere else. It might be a short term deal but he would likely still come back.

You don't understand what I wrote. Irving is not coming even prime MJ was here. He 100% has verbal agreement with the Nets. Do you really think that Danny didn't at least contact him and tell him he's willing to trade most if not all of our assets for AD if Irving comes back? I mean that's silly to think. Ainge leaves no stone un-turned. I think Ainge and Wyc have known that Irving is leaving regardless of what we do for a while now. ;)

IMHO the presence of Kyrie was not going to convince Ainge to come close to the Lakers offer. I think the Celtics 100% recognized Kyrie Irving's presence guarantees nothing with AD.

AD just walked out on his friend Holiday despite Zion being added to the Pelicans. Still friends with Holiday but left for greener pastures.

Kyrie may have had to have been Michael Jordan to convince AD to stay with the Celtics. I am not blaming you for this but I see some fans blaming Kyrie for AD. If anything I thank Kyrie if he had any role in Celtics not overpaying for an AD rental. I think Irving had nothing to do with it since Lakers blew all reasonable Celtics offers out of the water.

Given AD's own injury history combined with an aging Lebron, Pelicans got a great haul under the circumstances. Sure they would rather have AD over the next 8 years but given he was probably leaving after next year, great haul by their new gm.

Agreed. I am sure if Kyrie was 100% commited Danny would make the deal for AD...

But it is what it is...just have to do it the hard way...

He'll be as much of a Celtic legend as Antoine Walker is. That's if he ever even reaches that level

Not even 100%, Irving is absolutely gone by now. He actually has agreement with the Nets in place. Obviously Danny and Wyc know.

This thread is ridiculous. For the most part Danny has done an amazing job with this team.

While I really wanted Davis to be a Celtic the truth is that the conditions for a trade were not favorable for us: Kyrie has really stabbed us in the back by quitting on the team and without his assurance that he would resign here, and the fact that Davis didn´t want to come here it left Ainge with no other chance than lowball the Pels. I am sure we offered Brown, Smart, filler and some first rounds, IMO a better offer than the Lakers one still without Tatum, but Griffin must have been pressed to deal Davis before the draft.

While it hurts, I have to admit it was the only road he could take.

I still trust Ainge

Just unlucky timing. Had max cap space when the best FA available was Gordon **** Hayward (even before the injury, an all star reserve caliber player). Had top 3 picks in relatively weak drafts, as opposed to the years before and after where we could have drafted Porzingis, Russell, Doncic, JJJ, Trae, etc. Moved the Brooklyn pick when Kyrie Irving unexpectedly became available, as opposed to the following two years where Kawhi and AD became available. Now we're stuck with a team with no top 20 players or players who have the potential to be top 20 one day.

Hayward was crazy good that last year in Utah, nobody can predict he'll snap his leg. Gordon averaged 24/5/5 against the Warriors with Durant/Curry/Klay/Green. Also nobody could predict that Irving will go all emo and nobody here knows why Irving doesn't wanna return.

No he wasn't. He was an All Star reserve. A number 2 on a championship team at best. A free agency class with Hayward as the prize is not a good year to have max cap space.

I can tell you why Irving doesn't wanna return: We weren't a good team and our young guys are crazy overrated

Just a note to say we still have a max spot il Al opts out, unfortunately two of the major actors of this year free agency are done and the other one has just won a title with Tor and plays in a position we have 3 other guys...

You do understand that Irving was one of the main reasons we weren't a good team, right? We went from the top overall team in defensive ratings to the 6th or 7th with him. Also I dunno if you watched the playoffs but he shot ~.410 from the field and averaged over 21 shots a game. I can post countless videos of his defense in the playoffs.

Yeah and we didn’t won more titles in the 80’s because Larry didn’t jump.

He wasn't a good leader, but our underwhelming season was a lot more due to the young guys not being anywhere as good as we thought they were and Hayward sucking all year. Kyrie can leave and have more success and fun on another team. I don't blame him at all for leaving.

That's a horrid take. The young guys are good. Both Jaylen and Jayson averaged around 18 pts shooting close to .500 from the field without Irving. When you're relegated to sitting in the corner while Irving is dribbling for 18 seconds into double and triple teams then takes a fadeaway and jogs back to the other half of the court, nobody can be good. We completely went off the style we played the previous year, which was share the ball, look for the best shot. Also Brad I saw in videos that Brad tried to tell the guys to move the ball, Kyrie just didn't obey. Brad was backed into a corner as there was no way he can do anything to change what Irving was doing outside of benching him, which he couldn't afford with free agency approaching. Go rewatch the playoffs and tell me why the young guys aren't good? George Hill looked like an all-star playing against Kyrie. Hill averaged 15 points on .500 from the field in the series against us.

Here's one video for ref, if you want more I can dig up more:

He actually shot .320, .180 from 3 vs the Bucks.

Stop it. Irving had arguably his best season and Tatum and Brown very clearly had disappointing seasons. Shown little to no improvement from the previous year. We were never going to live up to expectations with them playing the way the did this year. Kyrie is a proven all NBA player. Tatum and Brown aren't even all stars and may never be. That's why Kyrie can't wait to get out of here
