I do think the voters got it right though. I would of picked Giannis as well even though I don't think he is the best player. Harden literally stat'd chased the whole season and openly campaigned for the award again. He didn't make his teammates better. He made Chris Paul look like a role player. Essentially Harden played a style that made everybody else on the team like worse than they are. Most importantly he played a style that won't win the Rockets a championship. That doesn't exactly scream MVP does it?

Well no, because everything you're saying is wrong.

This "style that won't win" made a team with clearly inferior talent come far closer to beating a full-strength Warriors team than anybody else ever has. If you think a guy like Giannis who you can basically just pack the paint against is somehow going to make that Houston team better in Harden's place you just aren't paying attention to playoff basketball.

I think the Raptors are a great team, even historically among title winners, and they would have been absolutely merked by a full strength Warriors team, like absolutely every other team that doesn't have James Harden has been.

Man. So happy for Giannis. I was on the boat from the jump. I remember watching that video with Givony when it first came out 6 years ago before the draft when he went to Europe to interview him. Followed him on Twitter when he got drafted and had the smoothie tweet. I said, if anyone let's this dude have the ball at PG, the league is in trouble. It's just nice to see someone truly grateful for the opportunity. He doesn't feel entitled/jaded by all this like most of the top players today getting non stop attention from 9th grade now. He truly come from the bottom. Good for Giannis.

As far as Harden. I respect how good he is but I hate his game. Although Houston needed him to this year his stay padding is gross to me. He seems like type of dude who wouldn't like winning if his stats weren't good. I always think about how many fight he would start with that flailing BS at the park lol. Without refs half his moves aren't legit basketball moves.

Anyways it comes down to this for me. The Bucks had no business being the best team in the league all year. You take Giannis off that team they might be a playoff team maybe? Don't think Middleton is an all-star. He elevated that team to the best record in the NBA. Harden elevates the Rockets but not to the same degree this year my opinion. Plus Giannis did it the whole year, Harden started off bad.

Just a shame Kawhi took so much time off during the regular season. Could have made it a 3 horse race, obviously he ended up MVP if it was done after the playoffs. Don't think he will ever win mvp though because he dont care about the regular season.

Thats prob the ONE good thing Jason Kidd did for him was get him comfortable as the defacto pg

If the Rockets had won at least 58 games this year then Harden would've won MVP for sure. But the fact of the matter is Houston had a worse record than DENVER out of all teams. There's no way he was winning it over Giannis who led the Bucks to their first 60 win season for who knows how long and while putting up 27/12/6. Well deserved for Giannis.

If you want to win MVP then WIN A LOT OF GAMES in the regular season. It's the only reason why Shaq has just one MVP.

I hate how the dumb NBA awards show eliminates scenes like this one ^^^ where the player accepts the award in front of their home crowd during the first round. It's a damn shame.

Eh this really should have been done after the regular season. It's probably deserved for Giannis, but at the same time it's hard to take it seriously now after seeing him get exposed in the playoffs as not quite at the level of the very. very best, at least for now.

Agree. It's starting to get awkward to see guys who have been great all year get an MVP after they couldn't will their team to a finals win. On the flip side, seeing players win a playoff MVP when they didn't play the primary role in getting their team to finals is odd too.

I'd like to see an MVP awarded right after the regular season is done. Then you can tack on a finals MVP for fun.

I'd say that the one-on-one exposure was caused by a great finals adjustment by the Raptors staff and the inability of Bucks coaching to counterpunch rather than a reflection of Giannis being unable to play with the big boys. That being said we can't know for sure until we see if Giannis can figure out how to adapt when he has a year rather than 4 games to do it. If he's older and it doesn't help, more blame goes to him.

Harden doesn't get benefit of the doubt b/c context comes into play. If Harden hasn't adjusted after all these seasons, he's less deserving of an MVP than he was in years past. The lack of experience probably gives Giannis some edge in voting -- that and his team went further with fewer high caliber players than Rockets.
