Morris is a great role player but we honestly don’t have room in the rotation for him if we have any plans to play any of our young guys. Signing him will only create unhappy players not getting enough minutes.
It appears Westbrook is about to get moved (btw Zach Lowe said on his podcast that Knicks have said they have no interest) and there’s going to need to be a team to assist in that trade.
Take on some dead money, still sign Bullock to the room MLE and your bringing the same roster back you thought you were but with an extra 1st round pick.
At some point we know the Knicks will be in the trade market for a star. Every single first round pick counts. The last 2 deals took 5 first rounders to complete (I know there were special circumstances) but having 3 future firsts from other teams will allow us to trade for a superstar without tapping into our own future picks.
Perry, Mills you got a second chance to add an asset by taking on dead money - something that the fans wants and the main stream media ripped you for not doing. Don’t blow this opportunity again
If we need to take on a contract for a pick why can’t we trade one for a pick? It’s the same difference. Take on a Marv Williams for a pick, trade Taj Gibson for said bad contract and pick. There’s literally no difference outside of helping that team’s draft position by helping their roster situation earlier and having that player better adjusted to his new team. There still a very human component to it all. It’s not fantasy basketball.
We still are trying to build a team to compete.
And we are in a fight for credibility.
We cannot have another 17 win campaign.
Build a team and if all else fails we have the means to basically do whatever we want, take on a pick for dead money or even pony up assets for a star.

Bullock seems to have some health concerns or an injury. I'd be all for the Knicks "doing the right thing" and tossing him some money, to keep the goodwill going with agents etc (not that it helped this past FA or anything) but Bullock isn't absolutely necessary, especially if he can't contribute. And recall, he was signed for a 1+1, so they might not have expected to get anything but 1 year anyway.
On a side note, and touched on - Morris is redundant after the Portis signing, but not because of Gibson. I always had Gibson down for about 10 mpg, total, and Randle getting backup C minutes.
Now, I know Portis can play some C, but he seems more like a PF, and he's the one that crowds things.
Have to assume the Knicks wanted Morris (much better defender) and pivoted to Portis when he "signed" with the Spurs.
Rotation:
PG's
SG's
SF: Knox/Morris
PF: Randle/Morris/Portis
C: Mitch/Randle/Portis/Gibson
It's a bit much after Portis, but I'd rather have Morris on the Knicks over Portis. Now they'll have both.

Nothing bush league about it. If the NBA didn't want this to happen, there wouldn't be a "moratorium" period. Once a player signs, he's signed. Except those aren't the rules.
Apparently the Spurs, and everyone, takes a bit of a risk.

What's the benefit for the Knicks here? A lotto team adding some meaningless wins next season? You could do that by signing plenty of other players who haven't already verbally agreed to a contract with someone else.
It's unprofessional and it only hurts FO's reputation in the future. It's the type of BS you'd expect from someone like Mavs, who can't make a decent trade or sign a noteworthy free agent to save their lives.

Smarting over the fact the mighty Al Horford went with the better team in the 76'ers? He went there because they are good, unlike the Mavs who might be good. Or suck.
