Sounds like a great plan, trade for a player that doesn't fit our timeline to hose a team that we play twice a year.

Riley will forever chase the big fish. He's been pretty good at doing that through trades over the years. Heck, he even traded for Bosh and Lebron...when the Heat had space and they were FAs!

I expect that they'll try for Beal, as he might be the best available player they're liking to be able to get. Washington is in a unique situation due to Wall's injury and bloated contract. That team might be willing to do a sign and trade if compensated heavily with picks and young players. I don't regard Beal as some transcendent talent, but he would fit what this team needs on multiple levels.

In my eyes, if the Thunder and Heat were to do a deal, and that returned our draft picks (just speculating here), then we'd have some ammo to go for a Beal trade. Without those picks, we're going to come up short in any bid.

The Heat would have a better shot at getting Beal if they traded for Paul, because the Thunder could change the picks that are due from 21 and 23 to 22 and 26 and take on Dragic, Johnson, and Waiters. The Thunder could also throw in Denver's 2020 pick to help the Heat take on Paul's salary. The Heat would then have 3 picks they can trade Denver's 2020, their 2020 and 2024.

Washington really needs to move on from Beal. He's not going to re-sign there. Even if they hit on their picks and it takes 3 years for them to develop, they'll still be stuck with Walls contract and Beal will be 29. If Miami will take Wall to get Beal, Washington should do that before Miami thinks twice.

If miami take wall they are not thinking , unless someone take wall for them, I think that the wizard are stuck with wall unless they trade a lot of picks. They have to trade Beal and get something before he walk away

I would love to have Beal, not to mess with Miami, his age, lack of injury history, and skill make him the perfect player to build around. That said, we have a great start on a rebuild and you likely have to empty the cupboard to bring Beal in; you only consider the move if you think he is staying long term.
If the goal is to stick it to Miami, much better off just trading the Miami picks to Washington.

We traded PG13 so the Clippers could get Kawhi as well. That's why we ended up having SGA + 5 first round picks (even if PG13 alone is worth a lot)

If trading CP3 allows Miami to trade for Beal AND contend, it increases CP3's trade value (or at least it decrease his negative trade value).

The Heat needs to find some common ground here. They want to have 5-6 assets (counting the ones they already have) while getting CP3 for scrubs.

The Heat are being stubborn. They want the 21 FA class (2 years away). I think its time to move on from a Heat deal, just keep their picks and see if Minny would do it for Teague and Dieng. Teague could be re-routed at the deadline while Dieng will play out the next two years here in OKC.

Like this idea WAY better than going for some lowball offer from Miami.

Minnesota wouldn't do that deal without someone taking on Wiggins. They don't want 2 bad contracts on their roster.

Wiggins salary - 2020, 27.5m / 2021, 29.5m / 2022, 31.6m / 2023, 33.6m
Dieng salary - 2020, 16.2m / 2021, 17.3m

Combined salary = 2020, 43.7m / 2021, 46.8m / 2022, 31.6m / 2023, 33.6m

CP3 salary - 2020 38.5m / 2021, 41.4m / 2022 44.2m

Financial difference for Minnesota = 2020, -5.2m / 2021 -5.4m / 2022 +12.6 / 2023 -33.6m

Minnesota trade - (Wiggins, Dieng) for (CP3, Howard)

OKC trade - (CP3 38.5m, FRP) for (Dieng 16.2m, Hill 12.8m, Crowder 7.8m)

Memphis trade - (Hill, Crowder, Howard) 25m expiring for (Wiggins 27m, OKC FRP)

- Minnesota swap 2 bad contracts for a slightly shorter option at a position of need without having to add any incentive, save 26m with the option to buyout Howard.

- OKC being 2.5m over the luxury tax, shed 4m in trade, net 20.6m expiring, save 87.3m off CP3's contract, for a FRP asset.

- Memphis Consolidate their 19 man roster in a (3-1) trade into Wiggins for a quality FRP.

this tweet is gold though. No way Presti would have passed on Herro/Bam/Picks even if Westbrook preferred Houston

Odds of CP3 going to Miami are high so it's easy. Curious to see if he's right about Dragic and Olynyx. Hope not.

If Dragic is traded I'm worried Sam may give 2 first round picks (would be terrible, don't think we can trade Dragic at the deadline for good value)

Dragic/Olynyx/Waiters for CP3 and Patterson works. (+1 or 2 picks...)

This is interesting. Protection on this one.

Oklahoma City will receive the two most favorable of its 2021 1st round pick, Miami's 2021 1st round pick and Houston's 2021 1st round pick protected for selections 1-4 and Houston will receive the least favorable of these three picks (via Miami to Phoenix to Philadelphia to L.A. Clippers to Oklahoma City; via Oklahoma City's right to swap Oklahoma City or Miami for Houston); if the Houston pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyable, then (i) Oklahoma City will receive the Oklahoma City pick and the Miami pick and (ii) Oklahoma City's swap right and Houston's obligation to Oklahoma City will be extinguished [Miami-New Orleans-Phoenix, 2/19/2015; Philadelphia-Phoenix, 6/21/2018; L.A. Clippers-Philadelphia, 2/6/2019; L.A. Clippers-Oklahoma City, 7/10/2019; Houston-Oklahoma City, 7/16/2019]

The 2025 pick swap with Houston is top 10 protected. While the picks and other pick swap is top 4 protected. If the Rockets pick in the top 4 in 2024 the Thunder get their 24’ and 25’ 2nd’s, if they pick in the top 4 in 2026 the Thunder get 26’ 2nd (you can’t trade 27’ picks yet.

I wonder if this restricts the Thunder from dealing the Miami 2021 pick...
