Wonder if he's headed out in another deal. Not that he's some great prospect but they seem to have other dead weight vet pitchers who could have been dfa'd.

Does this qualify as "help"?

Right. Not sure if this is a "buy" or a "sell." I can't imagine being more underwhelmed by a trade.

Since we aren't selling, I'm fine with this kind of trade.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

only type of trade we should be doing if they aren't going to sell. Low upside minor leaguers for MLB type help now.

I sure hope Smyly doesn't have another great start because whiffing on Miley AND Smyly and settling for Lyle and god knows what else would be infuriating.

I feel like this is the downside of the amount of information and the ability to quickly discuss on twitter. This is a filler roster move being discussed with more effort than most major trades were in like 2004.

I get what they were trying to do going with the younger guys but everytime I look at Wade Miley's numbers this year I get incredibly annoyed.

Yeah, I, too, will be angry at our management that we didn’t keep the guy that had an 8 (!!) ERA with Texas and were unable to use a crystal ball to know that he’d turn in one great start in Philly and settled for the guy with a 5.35 ERA.

Yeah, that’s one where I think if we had a larger payroll we’d have made it work. Left Burnes or Peralta in AAA for a while or something to start the year. I think the young guys plan as you say + budget decided that one.

Feel like mlb pitchers are like 25% are consistently good, 25% consistently suck, the other 50% are like shaking a magic 8 ball to predict there performance year over year or even month to month. Hope they get a luck roll of the 8 ball with Lyles for 2 months.

Saw this on the ESPN ticker: "Brewers acquire SP Lyles from Pirates. Last 4 starts: 0-3 15.00 ERA". Just starting laughing.

That's some serious shade from the person responsible for the ticker.

Arguably the biggest impact.

Curious to see what they do with Trent Grisham, if anything. To me he's the most interesting case we have right now, what is his baseline as a hitter? He's still riding an incredible hot streak in AAA, is this as high as his value is ever going to be or this a 22 year old finally starting to put it all together that we would be reckless to trade?

No clue how other teams value him obviously but it feels like he might be one of the key guys in question if we're looking to make an impact trade.

Good question, and I wonder if they learned anything from the Corey Ray fiasco. Dude's value was at an all-time high last offseason after a few disappointing seasons. The time to trade him was then for much-needed pitching. Instead, they sat on their hands and now Ray has regressed back (and then some) to his previous state.

Ray was a head scratcher of a pick the minute they made it. I never really understood why he was a guy picked top 10.

Grisham does have a much better K/BB ratio than Ray so I tend to trust his ability to maybe get into the majors and stick.

On one hand, Ray has only played ~30 games this year in his first stint in AAA so he can be given a bit of a pass/2nd chance. On the other hand, he's almost 25. Most good players have mastered AAA by then.
