I don't pay for the Network and still watch the Takeovers.
I guess pro wrestling isn't for people like me anymore. I couldn't care less about watching Takeovers just to see "great matches".
To me, "great matches" are the result of great characters, feuds, and storylines. What actually happens in the ring is not all that important in comparison. And in a vacuum it is almost meaningless.
The current indy "workrate" inspired Meltzer rating method of determining pro wrestling quality is completely foreign to me.
I agree with this. You need compelling storyline and storytelling during the matches, WWE's big match style is more or less just spot to spot stuff that focuses on big moves without a story and even NXT to an extent suffers from this (note, the best feuds in NXT often are the story driven ones like Gargano vs Ciampa rather than the pure athletic contests).
Obviously it should be technically sound (rather than two poor workers being in the ring) but more importantly than even that, the story must be there or else its pointless.
