Simmons has handled the last couple of weeks very poorly. If your going to talk the talk you have to walk the walk. He says how proud he is to be an aussie then let down a massive amount of people by not playing in Melbourne. The story about team chemistry is crap. He can't play 5 mins a quarter in his home town yet Donavan Mitchell and Jason Tatum can travel half way around the world to play.
Yesterdays Crown casino story was the icing on the cake. Crown would have every race of people on earth on the gambling floor. To suggest they profile is rubbish.
No one gets in if you look under 25, wear camo pants (which are banned as well) and refused to show id. He later showed id and went in.
He also forgot to mention he was staying in a Crown villa, which they provided for free.
Truth is:
a) Most players and people in general are proud of their ethnic homeland, including Ben, who's been in Australia hosting camps and giving back to the community he holds a piece of inside of him.
Him choosing pass on the FIBA (irrelevant) world cup tournament doesn't conflict this. Almost every star player, besides Kemba and Jokic bowed out. The timing is unfortunate and I'm sure all of the players would love to be out there, but with training camp looming, and the beginning of a potential championship run for Simmons and the 76ers - a glorified exhibition tournament isn't worth the risk of burnout or injury.
I get being disappointed over something like this, but the disgusting amounts of backlash reek of entitlement. The risk for Ben far outweighs the reward and if you allowed yourselves to use rational thinking, you could probably understand Ben's pov.
b) Blindly defending the casino in a situation where somebody is claiming to have been profiled and racially targeted isn't a good look, no matter how hard you try and convince yourself that he's wrong for feeling how he feels.
RE:the exhibition, you need to add more context.
he originally withdrew from the world cup but said he was going to play in the exhibition matches in melbourne...and even did promotional work with basketball australia.
he was the main attraction, people aren't going to melbourne to watch jonah bolden play.... a lot of people spent a lot of money to watch him play and then he decided to withdraw from that as well. This gets exasperated further when the promoters tell the ticket holders that there are no refunds. there is no way that, that could be spun positively in ben's favor lol...expecting the general public (especially newer basketball fans) that they should of 'known better' is ridiculous. you ever spend hundreds of $$$ (possibly thousands) on tickets and accommodation to go to a festival only to find out the headline act has dropped out?
b) blindly defending? are we really going this route?
because unlike ben, the casino actually presented evidence and backed their claims with cctv footage and actual witness accounts that detailed the whole ordeal. in contrast ben has 1 instagram story that he ended up deleting. the burden is on him as the accuser to present some evidence and proof of his claims.
what type of society do you want to live in where your 'feels' are going to determine how everyone should act and operate?
you know what really isn't a good look? accusing a minority security guard of racism just because he asked you for some ID
