Re: Future Draft Games
The current Big Board draft is good but not active in that it just takes making a list for each round and waiting. How about having another draft going on as well?
Thought doing a choose one season post merger and pick players from that season only?

I think the problem would come when both games are ready for playoffs. The board would be really cluttered and the voting would probably drag even more than usual.

I think an auction might be fitting as the next game

Re: Future Draft Games
The Blacklist - Same as the Big Board, but if two drafters want the same player with the same pick, the player is blacklisted for the rest of the round and for the rest of the game. Ex: Let's say two drafters wanted Kevin Garnett with the first pick in the first round. Both drafters would move on to their second choice, and anyone who would have been awarded Garnett uncontested moves on to their next choice. In other words, uncontested awards only. Limit one MVP.

I feel like this could get messy, what happens with the 5th pick 2 people want the same player? That guy is blacklisted even though he’s a scrub ? Same with every other position in the big board I imagine

Yes. If there’s a player you really want, you’d have to pick him higher than you think he would go, not unlike a regular draft. You might even get boxed out on a reach. To reach or to pick BPA; that is the question.

Re: Future Draft Games
Maybe MVPs get blacklisted from the pool permanently if there's a repeat, but non MVPs are put back in the pool the next round
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

We had trouble in the past getting enough people since it requires them to be there at a certain time, but the big board concept could help
Say you're given the option to make 16 bids per round. It's the same as the current big board concept except you put a money tag on each player up to $100 or whatever. If both players bid the same amount it is randomized.

You’d have to be given a limit of like $500 or else ppl would bid $100 on everyone. It could be done with fga ? Someone bids 30 fga on Jordan, now they only have 55 fga left for bidding

Re: Future Draft Games
I still think auction drafts should have minimum bids for certain categories of player. It gets silly when you can land an All-NBA level guy for $1 because he happened to be left unclaimed.

Re: Future Draft Games
I like Doc's idea, but I think restricting the pool heavily, to say 2019 season, works best. The idea of an auction is bidding on scarcity. To Fade's point, you won't see good players going for next to nothing. We'll have familiarity and bring guys into play who normally aren't.
You put 1/8 of the players out for bid each day. Players not bid on roll to the next day with the next 1/8 batch.
They did this on the Knicks board and it worked well.

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

If you make the list you need, I don't think that will be necessary. I'd be really interested to see a gradually declining talent pool. I'm quite sure there are more than 80 appropriate starters since 1990. Or we can start in 1976.

Any interest in this idea? It would be a fresh twist on the way a lot of players are valued.

I’d be down.

Re: Future Draft Games
Anybody interested in revisiting the games we did a couple years ago where everyone picks from the same one or two divisions?

Re: Future Draft Games
How about a 1st round of playoffs season draft. Can only pick players in chosen season where their teams lost in the 1st round of playoffs. So Jordan is only eligible in 1986.

Re: Future Draft Games
Along the lines of the division games, we could also do an East Coast-West Coast draft where only teams from states on each coast are eligible.

Re: Future Draft Games
I have a few ideas, but with some players like Laimbeer and Snell seemingly away, it may be a good time to take a few days off
