Unfortunately having the fame he had a couple years ago it's common for people to remember him as the skinny small one that shoots a lot. He's taller, stronger and shoots well but also passes extremely well like Lonzo. He's not as good a defender but he's a very good finisher.
He may be as good as Lonzo, depends on how his IQ develops.
I'm not entirely sure he's a defender at all, actually. But I'm rooting for him. No reason not to.
He'll be a 6'7 point guard. I can't imagine him being a bad defender at that size and athleticism unless he doesn't learn to stop fouling.
C'mon, stretch yourself. He's not longer or more athletic than ASU James Harden (though he probably works out more). "Big point guard" doesn't automatically equal decent defender. Just watch him play. He moves wonky, with a stiff waist, and he has short, chicken legs. And his mentality has to be at least examined.
I'm not an expert on him. I'm just saying, based on the dozen or so little highlight reels that I've seen (going back years), he's not inspiring me with confidence in his defense. I don't see much aptitude or desire.
But, I mean, whatever. That's just what I see. To be clear, I'm not saying he'll suck or anything. I like him fine. I'm just saying I haven't seen anything encouraging on the defensive side of the court.
