I did not mean to include all fans of both teams but it pretty obvious in the responses. Mavs fans are ignoring the injury/durability/stamina problems. Some Knicks fans are acting like he is trash.

I'm glad most people have hit the nail on the head here with KP.

I also think his rebounding concerns are a little overblown and his low numbers was mostly scheme based. He played alongside 2 very good rebounding Centers in Kanter and O'Quinn and Melo was also a good rebounding 3. He was mainly tasked for protecting the rim and contesting the shots while those guy grabbed the miss. He put up some really huge rebounding games in his rookie year.

He's a major impact player. We were battling for a playoff spot before he got injured and then went 4-26 or something close to that after he got hurt and Tim Hardaway Jr. and Enes Kanter became our best players. On a team with another legit scorer, plus a nice supporting cast, he should be better. The biggest factor for him will being able to stay healthy and on the court, it's a HUGE gamble that the Mavs took on his health but if it pays off, they're gonna have one of the best 1-2 punches in the NBA for the next decade.

They were 8 games under .500 when he went down.

He was 22 years old and was basically forced to take inefficient shots because we had no guards that could get him easy baskets and no one to run the PnR and PnP with. His efficiency is going to explode playing with Doncic, getting better as a player, and if he plays more Center. He has the potential to be a top 5 player in this league. His upside is still limitless. At worst he's gonna be an elite stretch 4/5 who is also an elite rim protector who can run the floor, finish in transition, and put the ball on the floor. That's a hell of a floor. His ceiling is doing whatever he wants out there on the floor and dominating in every conceivable way outside of rebounding. If he figures out his stamina and durability issues, it's over for the league, he was doing whatever he wanted with anyone he wanted to until he hit that wall. I think playing too much 4 and defending glorified 3s wore him and his 7'3 frame out

What's the point of this?

We were 22-25 when he was on the floor and 7-28 when he was injured. I didn't say we were a contender, but we were definitely in the playoff hunt when he went down. Probably wouldn't have made it, but my point still stands; he was the difference between us being the worst team in basketball (our record after he went down & last season) to being a team that was fighting for a playoff spot.

There are question marks over Porzingis, and worse they are ones that people tend to explain away with blind optimism.

Can he stay healthy, not just to stay on the court but so that he has confidence in his body to be physical and play without reserve.

Also his attitude, he seems to me a bit of a prima donna and a hot head, he's going to have to learn to maybe play no.2 to someone in a smaller market, that might be tough, he's not going to get a green light playing for Carlisle, that might be tough. That said the work he's done in this off season does look promising, I don't care how it translates to his game, you don't make that sort of body transformation by slacking in then gym.

Anyone doubting the actual skill set though needs their head examined, an elite rim protector that can shoot the 3 like a guard with nice handles and mobility too? He's a potential top 10 player, there's no reason he won't be popping up in conversations comparing AD to Embiid next year if it all goes well.

I mean... KP is a month younger than Kyle Kuzma. He's younger than Jokic. He's younger than guys like Caris Lavert, Terry Rozier, Julius Randle, Embiid, and Giannis. I don't buy into the narrative that he's somehow missed out on developing over just one season. If anything, his newfound physique should help him IMMENSELY
