It is true. I'm not going to make fun of anyone who can't afford Laker tickets though. It can add up fast. I mentioned in a previous post that it's much more affordable for a family to go to a Clipper game. I've been to plenty of Clipper games if I wanted to see the opponent, and you definitely see more families with young kids. It could be hundreds of dollars savings when you're talking about a fam of 4 or more. There's nothing wrong with that. People have bills to pay, I get it.
However, these claims about always "selling out" their arena are kind of misleading. I work with vendors who give me free clipper tickets quite often. But I've seen the ticket prices around game time and they're practically free. I remember one time there were seats for $8

. And I've seen enough empty seats to know they didn't sell out. Of course it's possible they were corporate seats that they couldn't find anyone to fill, so technically those empty seats would be "sold out". It will be interesting to see if I'm still able to get free tickets this season now that they're a legitimate contender.
On the other hand, getting Laker tickets from my vendors has been nearly impossible, even during their crap lottery years. They always find people to take those tickets before they trickle down to me. I'm a small buyer compared to some of their larger accounts, so I don't get dibs.
For anyone curious, these vendors I work with are multibillion dollar corporations like Coke, Pepsi, Budweiser. They have a lot of season tickets for every major sports team in L.A. Their major accounts would be places like Disneyland, Staples Center, Dodgers stadium, supermarkets, BevMo, etc. I'm small fish compared to them. I get the leftover Clipper tickets
