How much success did Mavs have in free agency when Dirk was there?

Well, all I can see is that from 2000-14, the Mavs were one of the most successful franchises in the NBA. Yeah, they''ve had some trouble rebuilding the last 4 years years. Not a bad track record. If it's true that black players don't want to play in Dallas, I haven't read or heard about that. I just read that "players" love playing for him, as an owner.

It looks like there are some happy black players in this video. :P

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1235842-dallas-mavericks-why-mark-cuban-is-the-greatest-owner-in-all-of-sports#slide5

Cuban may not be the most popular personality across the country, but one thing is for sure—his players love him.

Dallas is known league-wide as a great place to play, and a huge part of that of that attractiveness is Cuban.

He provides his players with one of the best locker rooms in the NBA, treats his team like family and does whatever it takes to accommodate them.

This was never more evident than in his interaction with troubled guard Delonte West.

When West signed with the team, he was near penniless. To compensate for that, he was forced to sleep in the Mavs' locker room and even his car early on in the season.

But when Mark Cuban got wind of this, he immediately put a stop to it.

“Soon as Mr. Cuban heard about that, he made one phone call and everybody was lining up to rent me an apartment,” West told the Dallas Morning News. “They were calling back saying, ‘Hey, we’ve got the penthouse suite for you.'"

However, perhaps the best indication of the players' loyalty to their owner came in the celebration after the Mavericks won the title.

Cuban was right there along with his team, and his players embraced and reveled in the jubilation with him like a brother.

There is no better statement of admiration and love than that.

Cuban is a lowkey racist but this isnt really a topic I care to discuss. Just had this convo a few weeks ago.

Yeah, I did hear that though I know nothing about how true it is. Prolly for another thread on another day ... on another forum.

No issue with the KP trade, just prefer that Phil Jax was able to trade him.

If KP is healthy the pairing with Doncic should be great for him. We never had a player like Doncic here, we never had anybody that could pass that well. KP should thrive with a player like that, not ISO Melo

KP is going to beast in Dallas and end up a Hall of Famer and win a ring or more. He and Doncic and are going to be great together. Players are going to flock there because they'll all want to play with Doncic and, as I'm sure you are all aware, NBA players LOVE Mark Cuban.

We’ll see who they could add. I hate the Powell signing b/c of the long term impact. They didn’t need him.

I don’t know why they didn’t chase Randle.

They should have gotten Favors. It cost NOP 2 2nds. That guy is a very good player and above average defender. That’s a miss. Idk why we didn’t grab him either. He would be great next to Randle. Would really have helped our defense when Mitch is off the floor.

Health is their biggest obstacle b/c that pairing should be phenomenal

If I recall, there was a lot of chatter here a couple years about us getting Randle to play along side KP. Seem like even a better pairing now. Some one poster earlier that perhaps they don't have the cap space yet? I dunno. But I like those two moves.

I love how Amin corrected Nichols, who’s been high-key mocking the Knicks all offseason long (which possibly rubbed off on Zach Lowe who made fun of the Knicks on her show in a way that I thought was very out of character).

I believe Amin’s the first analyst on ESPN to mention the two first round draft picks by the way. I so wish the 2023 pick were unprotected like the 2021 pick. The return could’ve been so much greater if it weren’t for the two max cats delusion.

That chatter was probably from me or 32THM b/c when I look back, we were the only ones who liked him before he took off on LAL

They would have been a match made in heaven. Oh well. I’m glad we’ll at least have one of them.

Which two moves? Powell?

I think Windhorst also praised the trade when it happened. He understood we got a good return. We did. That’s not up for debate.

I still wouldn’t have done it b/c bird in the hand and I’m probably too high on the potential. But judging this trade just off this offseason isn’t a fair take by anyone.

To be honest, I forget about the picks from time to time. The media just straight up ignores them.

I hope Perry gets creative with them when it's time to move some of the expiring vets.

I think, when it's all said and done, we dodged a bullet with KP.

Either his body keeps breaking, he keeps hitting a wall after 40 games, or he keeps up with his extracurricular activities.

I liked the trade at the time but I'm starting to think it might be a top 5 all-time trade for the Knicks:

1. Monroe
2. DeBushere
3. Oakley
4. Spreewell
5. Removing KP

...or he goes on to become a perennial All-Star. We can't dismiss the potential impact of KP going forward.

Having Mitch makes it a lot easier to hedge the bet though. At least we have replaced and possibly improved the defensive dominance.

I respectfully disagree, I hope Perry stays conservative and holds on to those picks, especially the unprotected 2021 pick. It could potentially turn into a top 4 pick, with the Mavericks' lack of depth and assets and the question marks surrounding KP's health. For me this asset is borderline untouchable. The 2023 pick a little less so since it's top 10 protected.

Fair enough.

Either way, I am glad we have them. Especially since Dallas is such an unknown and KP can go down, in one way or another, at any time.
