Fascist logic right there. I'm from a country where companies "employed" KZ prisoners and they're STILL the richest ppl around (eg BMW cars, Quandt family, google it).
At some point you got to make a decision:
making money - or doing the right thing.
You obv made your choice. "Hurt his employer" What. The. Hell.
Whoever stands up for China, UAE, Saudi-Arabia etc. for whatever reasons - is fascist to me.
Money being the shadiest reasons of all.
If your forefathers freed concentration camps - and you're subscribing to this "dont hurt your employer" logic. You have learnt nothing.
NOTH-ING.
Rockets owner is Chamberlain 1938 reincarnated.
There is nothing fascist in Saudi Arabia and UAE, Saudi Arabia was part of the antifascist coalition during WW2 and only reason why would someone put China in same sentence with them is islamophobia in communist and libertarian circles.
Now back on topic: Only goals that NBA franchise FO's have is to win on court and to sell tickets, jerseys and merchandise and nothing else. NBA as organization can stop dealing with China because they disagree with their policies but if single franchise do that only thing that will change is that some other NBA franchise is going to takeover their fans. By supporting protests in Hong Kong Morrey alienates Rockets fans in China and hurt his own team and that makes him bad GM .
Another thing where i disagree with you is that you think that he do it because he think that is right thing to do. I doubt that that is the reason. He is GM for a long time so we could see that he lowballed a lot of players that played very good for his team and even destroyed career's of some of those players ( Motiejunas for example) so i doubt that he is person that can relate with poor and middle class from Hong Kong. He never criticized China before about Tibet, Uygurs, aggresive behaviour in South China Sea toward their neighbours, their support for regimes in North Korea , Myanmar or Iran or any other issue. Reason why he support Hong Kong protests is because Hong Kong along with Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Chile and Iceland have special place in libertarian ideology which means that he is virtue signaling that he is libertarian zealot even though that kind of behaviour hurt his employer. His ideology is more important to him than interest of company that he presents which means that he is bad GM. Collison retired so he can preach his religion while Morrey do it while he is GM on tour with his team and it only shows his privilege in society. And supporting Hong Kong protests while his country is in trade war with China where right wing media spread propaganda against China while liberal media support Hong Kong protests isn't that brave and he isn't going against system, cynic would say that he is doing it because he is part of the system.
