I have great respect for the Chinese people who are captives in their own country, but the NBA needs to realize that they are in bed with a mafia state and they should start looking to grow their fanbase in other countries like India who can handle mild criticism.
You should read up on what's going on in India. They really aren't any better. A lot of the same stuff that is happening in China is happening in India.
Forcing control over semi-autonomous region using heavy military tactics. Concentration camps. Removing citizenship in parts of the country. Concentration camps. Authoritarian nationalism masked under the guise of patriotism. Discrimination of minority religious groups en masse.
Same sh*t, but less reporting on these b/c the govt intimidates the press and blocks all communication channels and access to the regions they are committing these human rights violations.
China is just the more sexy reporting story for American media b/c China holds sway over the American economy, whereas India's influence beyond their own borders is next to nil.
Kashmir situation is more like West Bank then Hong Kong .
Not really. Kashmiris have been constantly protesting, with hundreds injured by the Indian military, people have been killed. Young males have been picked up without cause, and shipped to prisons across the country. Same thing with Kashmiri politicians.
India completely blacked out Kashmir prior to revoking their semi-autonomous status. They have no internet, telephone lines, no internet on their phones, media is banned from reporting, and no outsiders are allowed in, including foreign media and human rights organizations.
Modi is up there with some of the worst authoritarians in the stuff he's done. And Vivek Ranadive has a budding relationship with him, including his daughter singing for Modi during a recent visit to Mumbai.
It's a really bad look for the NBA that they book two of their foreign exhibition games in countries where these kinds of human rights violations are occurring.
Really makes them look hypocritical for moving the All-Star Game from Charlotte over the transgender bathroom issue.
