Damn, I hate losing!! This sucks....we are definitely going to have a hard time winning the AL East when we keep dropping these "must win" games. We can only hope that Seattle loses and that the White Sox grow a pair and come back to win!

7 games back... 32 games left. Unless Boston chokes and we sweep all 6 games, it won't happen.

Wildcard is not looking good either.

yep, Sea has 3 more games to play more than us....so that means when we are done, we need to be leading them by 2 games in the standings

I thought the division was over about a month ago after I realized Boston plays nobody other than the Yanks down the stretch. But I still expect Seattle to slow down at some point. That 3 game series against them at home will be huge.

You know, it's not going to be as easy for Seattle when they stop playing the Rangers...

Sometimes you guys make me sick. How is the wild card over and done with?

Seattle has 34 games left. Of those 34, 4 are @ LAA, 3 are vs LAA, 5 are against the Indians, 3 are @ NYY, 3 are @ DET. That is 18 of the 34 games against playoff contenders. And the other 6 road games at TOR and OAK aren't much easier. They have 6 easy games left all season, 3 vs TB and 3 vs TEX. They just got done with a stretch of Orioles, White Sox, Twins, White Sox, Twins, Rangers while we were going up against Cleveland, Toronto, Detroit, Anaheim, Detroit. That is the only reason the race is still tight.

Of our 31 remaining games, only 9 are against playoff contending teams. That is HALF the amount of games that the Mariners have left against playoff teams. Take out the series we play each other and they have 15 and we have 6. Big, big difference.

We'll know where the wild card is at on September 10th. At that point, Seattle will be finishing up a 10 game road trip against CLE, TOR, NYY, and DET and we will be finishing up a 9 game home stand against BOS, TB, and SEA.

This team needs to go 23-9 to be a 95 win team. Do you think that is possible? No, I don't think so.

Who says 92 or 92 wins doesn't win the wild card this year?

What does that have to do with anything? Whether or not we win the Wild Card has to do with whether or not we finish ahead of Seattle, not an imaginary win mark.

(The Mariners won it with 91 wins in 2000. Of course, if you want to count the NL, the Dodgers tied with the Padres and were given the wild card with 88 wins last year...)

You know, it's completely possible that Seattle is a better team than us and they won't "come back to Earth" as you say.

I'm willing to deal with Hughes's struggles... he's a rookie and I kind of expected these struggles. But the rest of our pitchers other than Wang are 6 inning pitchers. Can't win with that.

You're right, nothing new ever happens in baseball every year.

We're talking about comparing 95 wins to 93 wins, not 88.

Even if we make it to the playoffs, I doubt we make it past the first round. I know, you get there and anything can happen. Our pitching sucks though. Our bullpen has been good but our starting pitching is terrible for the 4th year in a row.

The playoffs are a crapshoot. Just get in there and see what happens. Pettitte and Clemens have pitched big games, and I trust Wang in the playoffs. But first we must get there. And it's entirely possible since we're only 2 behind Seattle with like 30+ games to go some games left against Seattle.

I dont know what the hell 95 games or 23-9 over the final stretch has to do with the wildcard THIS SEASON. 95 games is not a magical number for the wild card. If we have to go 23-9 over the final 32 games then Seattle has to play just as good with a 22-10 record over the final 32.
