Re: Around the NBA - Training Camp
Buddy was arguably better than Fox last year. The guy is an absolute bucket. Can’t hate that #.

Hoo boy though that's a lot of money. Good time to be a second/third tier player in the NBA.
It's contracts like that that make me agree with Pills' strategy more than I disagree.
Why pay Hield when you can get a real star for moderately more?
Yes, the real stars are harder to get, but the juice is worth the squeeze.
I mean, Buddy is a pretty elite scorer. 59 TS% 42.7% from 3 on over 8 a game is pretty insane. He’s worth every penny of that contract and arguably a value deal. Shooting at an elite level is worth gold.
Certainly better than Barnes' contract
Spoiler:
As discussed earlier, I'm not as violently opposed to this approach as some previous ones. Just respectfully disagree and think a better path to the stars is through acquiring trade chips and creating a halfway decent team.

I mean, yeah, but I don’t think that’s what the Knicks are going to do. Getting Iggy, Dragic Harkless trio would’ve been the sneaky smart move with those picks.

Making moves like that is the strategy I endorse as well.

Re: Around the NBA - Training Camp
Buddy Hield
Played and started in 82 games - 31.9 MPG
20.7 PPG 5.0 RPG 2.5 APG 0.7 SPG 0.4 BPG
46% on 16.6 FGA 43% on 7.9 3PA 89% on 2.4 FTA
56% EFG 59% TS
That got him 4/94
He might outplay that contract if he continues to progress. As is, that seems like fair value.
Paying guys who are good is not a bad thing just b/c they're not superstars. It's overpaying trash for no good reason that leaves you in a terrible position.

Hield is good and the contract is fine in a vacuum. I just don't know if I pay Hield as an overall team building strategy for a squad in our position.
I would rather stack up rookie deals and save my powder.
Problem with that is that Pills may run out of time before the strategy bears fruit.

There are people with the Knicks that wanted to do that strategy as well, but they got over-ruled by management, who want to build a competitive team with specific players they wanted.

Nobody is signing to go to Sacramento lets be real. Hield is a good signing because he's an elite shooter and even on that contract he's still a valuable asset. Playoff teams will always search for a guy like that so even if they do decide to trade him it won't be hard to find the right deal
DENVER NUGGETS

I agree it makes sense for Sacto. They need more like this and less like Barnes.
I still can't believe they paid Barnes the first time, watched him for a few years, then paid him again. I understand they are the Kings, but have some self-respect.
It's like Chandler Parsons all over again.

Ah, you're right. I forgot Dallas committed the original sin (in both Parsons' and Barnes' cases).
The rest of my statement still stands.

You're too harsh on Barnes. It's an overpay, but he's a competent defender, shooter and a good locker room guy. Parsons had microfracture surgery on his knee before he signed that deal. That was a disaster from the beginning. Barnes is at least a healthy body who isn't a complete liability on either end.

Re: Around the NBA - Training Camp
Not many people actively watch the Kings so I get it, but Buddy is legitimately one of the elite scorers in the NBA. For the Kings, this was a must, especially because he fits with Fox and Penny Bagley.

Who’s gonna stan Matisse Thybulle & Kenrich Williams with me this year? We move. Kings being a playoff team is my hot take.

Hotter take, Kings make the playoffs and Lakers miss the playoffs.

Re: Around the NBA - Training Camp
guaranteed playoff teams
lakers
clippers
denver
utah
portland
houston
next 2 are golden state and san antonio. can the kings knock one of them out ? i don't think so. they might need 1 more year. with a healthy zion, new orleans might be better. 1 month without him though might be too long for them to recover. the west is that tough.
