I agree that it’s an overpay, but Ainge is betting on Jaylen Brown’s potential ceiling at only 22 years old, which is much higher than Buddy Hield’s. Whether he reaches that ceiling or not, only time will tell. This could end up being a fair deal, or a dramatic overpay based on what Jaylen becomes over the next 4 years.

But why extend a year early if youre hoping for future improvement? You can wait the year, see how he has progressed, and then give him the max if he deserves it. He clearly does not based on his production thus far in the NBA

Exactly last season was so mediocre for him. Tatum by far is a better prospect too so I don't really see the need for this now. I'm just assuming Ainge is looking at FA next summer and just didn't want the distraction during the season.

Why not just trade him? Why give a guy 30m that isnt above average at any aspect of basketball? They also have tatum and hayward do they really need another wing?

Horford was more valuable and a better fit. Weird approach.

It doesn't kick in until the 20-21 season. Hayward could also opt out in the summer and leave.

You would have to think the Celtics are looking to dump Hayward anywhere between now and the start of next season

What? lol Kemba just signed there as a FA. Hayword has been a disappointment but was still a sought-after FA who chose Boston in 2017. Horford left ATL to sign with Bostin in 2016.....that's 3 top FA from their FA class in the past 4 years...

 At any NY fan saying that "Stars dont wanna play in Boston"

After losing Rozier, Irving and Horford, i guess they weren’t about to risk losing anyone else. The optics of that just wouldn’t be so great

Having said that, i think i would have just traded the guy before last years deadline

Let's get a grip here, Brown is not magically becoming Paul Pierce. He has shown nothing in that direction.

With so few free agents next summer, someone would have maxed him.

Like it's that hard to dump an expiring contract. Not even worried about it I hope Hayward stays, not my money...

Good signing, really like his game. I wanted to us (raptors) to go after him if he didn't sign.

Well I suppose the wording on that tweet could have been more exacting but obviously the tweeter meant they are confident he will reach all star level soon and maintain it.

I COULD get a date with Kate Upton.
Aside from him underperforming, not a lot of teams are going to have capspace this summer, might has well pick up the option and try to enter free agency in 2021 when everyone has space.
