I agree that it’s an overpay, but Ainge is betting on Jaylen Brown’s potential ceiling at only 22 years old, which is much higher than Buddy Hield’s. Whether he reaches that ceiling or not, only time will tell. This could end up being a fair deal, or a dramatic overpay based on what Jaylen becomes over the next 4 years.
But why extend a year early if youre hoping for future improvement? You can wait the year, see how he has progressed, and then give him the max if he deserves it. He clearly does not based on his production thus far in the NBA
Exactly last season was so mediocre for him. Tatum by far is a better prospect too so I don't really see the need for this now. I'm just assuming Ainge is looking at FA next summer and just didn't want the distraction during the season.
