Its bad timing with monts 1 good game but he is the type of name that would cancel out the howard gaffe.
But, why?
Bell is an all-time RB talent, but he's playing behind a terrible offensive line and can't produce. He'd have similar issues in Chicago. Paying an RB elite money is one of the worst decisions you can make in the NFL. They're all replaceable talents who largely succeed because of offensive line play.
Trading Howard wasn't a mistake. They weren't going to re-sign him and he would not improve this team's chances of winning games. Also, he's a two-down back, who telegraphed our offensive plays because of his inability to be a receiver.
The problem is this team's run blocking has regressed for three straight seasons.

Honestly i dont see the problem paying elite money to an elite player. Like zeke for example.
Bell is struggling right now so yeah his contract and current production isnt really good for the bears.
People want a commitment to the run game but how can you commit to something you dont like or trust?
Howard has shown he can produce behind less than average to below average line.
Right now Montgomery is called upon less than howard was. With howard the bears were 6th in the league in attempts so there was a reliance on the running game.
The offense is in shambles.
The bears have lost 3 straight.
The only difference is that you lost your leading rusher of the last 3 seasons.
There should be some accountability for this occurrence.
For most people the scapegoat is mitch.
Now theres a narrative for it being Nagy.
At this point its spilled milk i understand, but nobody cleaned it up and it spoiled and just recently we got a new glass of it with a 153 yd performance.
Nobody was expecting that so it didnt really go with the meal.
We saw the reliance on the run game is the difference between cracking 300 yards offensively or not. Overall we relied on a 3rd round rookie to carry the load for a potential championship team.
The offense is playing at historical lows so watever strategy they used to improve upon last years offense was an objective failure.
The main change was the rb. It was the only change really.
