In fact, I'm more upset that we didn't go after Brogdon and D-Lo this summer than I am about the KP trade. Because together they would've added more value than KP, who's a good player, just not a great one.
I think it really depends on the draft picks, and if DSJ turns it around
But the big thing is, as Cap said, it seems like we prioritized using him to clear cap instead of getting back assets. Maybe if we don't send over Lee or Tim, those picks would be unprotected, or we get back another small asset, I don't know. So when you look at it through the lens of, it was their primary goal to clear cap space, and this is what we do with it, it wasn't great for us
But, really, I don't think it was a terrible trade yet, at least we got assets out of it and have no big contracts on the books after next year. I think you look at it as, we have RJ and Mitch (who we'll likely need to re-sign in 2021 because he's an RFA but if we pick up his last year he becomes a UFA in 2022), hopefully another top pick this year, and whoever we draft in the 21 draft, which we have 2 firsts in, all of whom will have low cap hits in 2021 free agency, so maybe we can add to the core then. Knox is potentially a part of the core, but isn't solidified yet, and DSJ and Frank both have pretty big cap hits in 21, so I doubt we keep them, but that could change
As long as we don't f*ck it up by trading our assets for CP3, we're in a decent spot looking forward, could go either way at this point
