The guy struggled last season, but was not only an All-Star the year before, but received not only Cy Young votes, but MVP votes as well (none for 1st place, but still). Perhaps a Betances replacement?

Keep an eye on Kyle Holder to replace Didi at shortstop. Best defensive infielder in the organization, lefty and can spray the ball around. Reminds me of an infield Gardner.

Chris Gittens is another guy to watch if the Yankees don't find a clear answer at First Base. Coming off an MVP year in AA with a lot of power.

the Kyle Holder that is already 25 and has yet to make it to AAA or hit .300?

Chris Gittens another guy already 25 and has yet to make it to AAA but at least has a bat. maybe 2021 him + Ford at 1B cheap anyway. i am not expecting Voit to last much longer. rather see Miggy's bat in the lineup someplace if he can recover.

Some of the smaller teams are striking medium deals. Abreu, D'Arnaud, Moustakas.

The big guns will take a while though...hopefully that's a sign that the Yankees are not resting on their laurels. Not that we had any to rest on, but yea...

Yeah, occasional small moves, nothing really to blink at.

I wonder what team goes beyond the 6th year just to grab Cole.

Here come the meetings.

Cashman: So what's it gonna take to put you in a Yankees jersey?
Cole/Strasburg: Writes number on paper.
Cashman: (gives paper to Hal)
Hal: Well, it was nice meeting you.

I still would love to have one of them sign here, but I'll still be surprised if one of them signs here.

A reason I believe why the Yankees have had this step back approach to signing the marquee free agents is because there's draft picks attached to signing.

They don't want to lose upcoming picks which will only hinder our farm system. Can't argue with that, they have to be picky in who they offer a contract over 6 years to.

Draft picks are at least 2 years down the line if they get through the minors, no matter how good they are at the moment. The team is trying to contend now. Draft pick compensation should not be the reason why Hal/Cashman don't wanna offer long term contracts to pitchers.

And I completely agree with that but the ideology these guys follow now is what can affect them in the future instead of the now.

The Cashman/Hal quote of trying to win "championships, and not a championship" is based on this ideology.

Which is why the Stanton trade is such a head scratcher right now.

Signing Cole/Strasburg is about trying to win "championships, and not a championship". That's a definite ace this season and a potential ace for several after.

For the record, I'm still a Stanton believer. When he was able to play, he looked good last season. I still think he has Silver Slugger potential going forward. Trading away Castro opened up room for Torres. Guzman is still a question mark. He was solid for us in low A, sucked after the trade at high A, and had a decent season in AA. Jose Devers was very good from Rookie to high-A. Still don't know where he'll start this season at.

I don't believe this. The MLB is not like the NBA or NFL where draft picks are mostly the end all be all. Draft picks in NBA and NFL is where you build teams, but the MLB there is other ways. Many players picked in the 1st round don't even make it to the big leagues in MLB. And we still have international signings or minor league trading etc.. A proven ACE pitcher with dominance in the playoffs, they need to 100% go after. Aces are not on the market every year and true aces are hard to come by. This is a once every couple of years thing.

Yanks should have done this.

Oh well. The Phillies are intent on making the most expensive team ever that won't win sh*t.
