I think Harbaugh could easily go back to the NFL and immediately win. He just didn't get along with mgmt in SF. I was actually just thinking about this the other day. Probably when thinking Anthony Lynn made some head scratching decisions and has a team that constantly makes mistakes whether it be penalties or turnovers...until they play Jacksonville and are eliminated from the playoffs of course.
I like Harbaugh quite a bit too. Spanos family want a yes man so I do not think they would appreciate a coach like Jim Harbaugh even with the success he would bring. They fired Marty Schottenheimer after a 14-2 control essentially because Marty was a strong willed coach.
To answer WG's question, I guess Chip Kelly fits the bill more than Harbaugh for a comparison to Thibs.
I don't think Chip Kelly does. He was great at Oregon, had like one decent year at Philly and then just kind of stunk for a couple years. Thibs was highly respected in the NBA for years and then suddenly it turned quickly and people thought the game had passed him by.
I think a good comparison that comes to mind if we have to make them would be Jeff Fischer.
Main difference though is while Fisher is a medicore coach all his players love him. Like I swear I've never heard a former player of his say one bad thing about the guy. I think that had a lot to do with him getting so many chances I think he's just a cool guy who people want around.
Chip Kelly is a good analogy. Both guys had their schematic thing that when it was the new thing did well but they never really adjusted as opponents figured them out.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.
