Alan Horne named EL Pitcher of the year!!
This is really nice, worthy of it's own thread IMO. He has pitched really well all season and if I'm not mistaken led the league in Ks and almost in ERA (even while starting the season in high A). He had a great year and I expect him to spend almost all of next season in AAA. He'll be the first guy in line if there is an injury and will most certainly be a Septembar call up at worst.
Here were his numbers on the season:
12-4
2.97 ERA
142.1 innings
136 hits
51 walks
158 strikeouts
1.40 GO/AO ratio
Opening day 2009 will consist of a rotation of Hughes-Joba-Wang-Kennedy-Horne. Book it.

Didn't Santana recently ask for part ownership of the Twins to resign?

That was just a column written in a Minnesota paper where the writer said that the Twins should try to convince Santana to stay by offering him part ownership and maybe they can even sign him for cheaper that way. He pretty much made it up, no way that would ever happen. Even Scott Boras wouldn't get that for a client of his.

I think over the winter you see cashman trading some of these prospects for a guy like santana. You know ALL of these prospects arent going to live up to the promise. If we do get Santana it will be a hefty price tag. But its the only way to truly compete for a world series next year. A rotation of all rookies probably wont get you to the playoffs.

I would only trade some of these prospects for a top of the rotation type guy. No Jon Garlands or Bronson Arroyos.

The Twins are going to ask for Kennedy, Hughes, or Joba in any deal for Johan...you guys realize that right? I think Joba is untouchable but I wouldn't shoot down a deal involving Hughes OR Kennedy, key word there is OR. Hughes AND Kennedy is a no in my mind.
Realistically though Minny probably would ask for Hughes, Tabata, and another prospect for Santana....and I wouldn't necessarily call them crazy for asking that. Don't know if I'd do it, but you have to pay big to get big time stars.

It's funny how you've given up on Hughes already. I have seen this kid in midseason form and the kid is just unbelievably talented. He's gifted. I believe his tools will translate better as a starter than Joba. Give the kid time, he's having some growing pains and even considering that he isn't doing that bad.
Giving up on Hughes now is foolish.
Saying prospects like Alan Horne, Ian Kennedy Austin Jackson and Jose Tabata are untouchable is foolish though.

Cmaff, once again you're skewing my words? When in there did I say I was turning on Hughes? I said I wouldn't call Minny crazy for asking for Hughes, Tabata and another prospect. I said I wouldn't hang up the phone, or say no right away. You'd have to be crazy to hang up the phone on Minnesota for any offer involving 2 of our big 3 pitching propsects.
But again, I never said I was giving up on Hughes. NEVER

People don't realize that when GMs are under pressure to win now they do moves like that. Its not necessarily that they always think it will be the best move 15 years down the road, in most cases they care about what will happen in 2 years....which is why Cashman getting full control helped us because he A) could keep our young guys meaning B) He doesn't need to feel pressured to trade players and win at all costs.
Basically what I'm saying is prospects are often traded by big time teams because of pressure from above to win now, not because they think it will be the better move in 10 years.
