Ayton is a nice player though. Defending, which is the key to bigs, plus the rest he can do. 2018 is turning out to be an epic class.
clear #1 pick without question

I remember the Tank 4 Doncic memes in many threads until it became an impossibility.
Yeah, not sure why history is being changed.
Doncic was highly coveted for like 2 years before he was even eligible for the draft.
He wasn’t taken first or even highly considered for it. Which means he was undervalued.
What’s the point of examining this or that yarn of tanking when the whole tapestry has holes and is randomly stitched together?
We didn’t tank properly is a fallacy — if all teams in the hunt tanked properly, then what makes you think we’d win the tank?
Second, Luka was not scouted as a dominant player. He was thought of as a very good prospect and now he’s generational. That’s a big gap.
But, to those who loved him, kudos to you seriously. The teams didn’t scout him that way though ... that’s not revisionist, we have the actual draft lol!
... Ingram just choked.

KnicksGod wrote:You guys are speculating, doing fancy footwork or using your own input. What we know is that 3 teams passed on him, for whatever reason, which probably says a lot about what the other teams might’ve thought.
Again, there’s a gap between his success and how he was viewed before the draft.
He may have been generational to some of you and to some teams, but factually not the first three teams picking.

Ayton is very good but still a big miss to not take Luka. A huge one. He’s LeBron level and wasn’t at all perceived that way. That’s a big difference.
Suns and Kings should’ve taken him. But he also wasn’t even a surefire pick at 3. So what sense does it make to worry about this or that and make like the Knicks were the only team trying to tank or get good players.
We’ve had mismanagement and bad luck but examining one or two things as if the tide turned right there, to me, is kind of weak.
I wouldn’t fire a GM for choosing Ayton over Luka. Suns did a poor job surrounding him with a competent and compatible talent last year, similar to what we did with RJ this year.
Kings not choosing Luka is what surprised me.
Yeah Ayton goes #1 in most drafts still.
I am surprised to see Bagley struggling tho. I think he’ll still be an all star but a couple of years from now I suppose.
KnicksGod wrote:3 teams passed on a chance to take Luka. 10% of the NBA made a public signal of passing. Pretty safe to say he was widely undervalued. Was he a surefire lottery pick and well regarded? Yeah but that’s not the same as considered as good as he obv is.
Blurring the line there is the real revisionism.

I know you’re high on Bags fam but that lack of wingspan offsets his high motor. That’s why I’m amazed with the Bagley comps some throw at Wiseman. Even if you doubt Wiseman’s offensive skills (a different topic altogether), that 6 to 7 inch difference in wingspan is huge in itself considering both have high motor.

It's not only his wingspan. He has no right hand and his defensive awareness is just not that good. He's also still very raw offensively. I think eventually he'll put it together but he does not look like a #2 pick right now at all. Holding an L on him for the time being

KnicksGod wrote:Here’s the logical deal: If a team valued Luka properly, they would have paid almost any price the Hawks or anybody else wanted. But no signs that teams did value him that highly, although many may not have had the assets to get him.
Mavs maybe just got a better deal but would have upped their bid. A lot of teams could not have equaled the Dallas offer but might’ve also wanted Luka.
Luka was not close to a consensus top overall pick which he clearly should’ve been. So Dakomish is treading in some major 20/20 hindsight waters which is a common but silly thing to do.
