He's also shown the ability to shoot from deep and put the ball on the floor and attack the basket. My question would be how much competitive fire he has. It's really hard to tell. Here's to hoping he joins a NBA G League team so we can get a closer look at him and how he handles playing against grown men in what basically is AAAA ball.
One thing we know for sure is that he played hard in college. Before the season he actually spoke about his motor problems and how he wants to improve in that aspect and he fully addressed them in the season. I expect him to keep playing like that given his IQ and high work ethic.
Ayton is another guy who had motor/defensive problems coming out of high school/college and is now excelling in both areas in the NBA.
This also comes back to coaching and vets. Surrounding these type of players with a good coaching staff and solid vets can go a long way. Suns are doing that with Monty Williams, Mark Bryant, Baynes, Rubio to mentor Ayton. It's paying off.
Knicks have to nail their next coaching hire. We should follow the Suns model because it seems to me they know what they're doing.
You don't want another situation like KAT to where he is not playing hard all the time and is taking plays off (although he is still a great player, it's undeniable that he would be a GOAT type level of C if the Timberwolves properly developed him).
