Still think I want a Hayward+picks for Favors/Redick
that's about as smart as Joe Johnson for Tony Delk and Rodney Rogers to win 5 more wins and make the playoffs in a year where we had no chance at a championship.
Same thing.
Does Hayward and picks for Favors/Redick put us in the finals with a chance? No.
Does it clear up space to make a big move next year to do the same? No.
Does it give us better assets for trades in the future? No, and big No.
I'm all for any trade that improves any of those 3 things, or at least doesn't hurt any of those things. Like if we trade some assets for the Lazer, and then retain him, it could be a move that moves us closer to a championship. This trade does none of the above.
Celtics can't even afford to keep Hayward after next season when Tatum's max contract kicks in. Even next season, if Hayward picks up his option, will be very tight in terms of tax situation. Would need to say bye bye to Kanter and Theis to stay under.
The fact is, Celtics can't afford to keep all 4 of Walker, Brown, Tatum, Hayward.
Not that Ainge will trade Hayward. I don't think there's any market for him if we want actual value back. If you can trade Hayward for some good, less costly player you do it.
