Sad sad day. I keep getting the image of his 2 youngest daughters, not understanding much about anything, keep yelling for Daddy and Gigi, and the only thing that Vanessa and Natalia can do is hug them.

I’ve never seen that pic. Watching the great career montage on NBATV the main thing I took away was he was clearly clinically obsessed with hooping and competition. This picture captures that perfectly. I forgot he basically put Team USA on his back when it was on life support.

So he was the only one mourning?!? But what else you can expect...

Wonder why Lebron hasn’t said anything. Kobe’s last post was giving him praise that’s gotta stick close to home with him

I would imagine he's in shock and grieving from this. Pretty crazy the last thing Kobe wrote was congratulating Lebron for passing him in all-time scoring.

God bless the Bryant family and the families of the other 7 passengers. This one really hurts.

I remember coming here to RealGM the night Kobe scored 81. You have to remember, this was before everyone was texting on cell phones. This was before Twitter. You either talked to random people on a message board, or maybe you chatted with your friends on AIM.

As the game progressed, this board's nightly game thread rapidly grew more and more. Half the board was bitching that he was a ball hog, the other half was marveling in his excellence. That was the effect Kobe had on us all as fans. It was such a fun experience watching the game with whoever was on here that night. Wish I could dig up that old thread.

It's true that Kobe transcended the game of basketball, but he made the game that much more meaningful to all of us. If you loved him, it made all the wins, the accolades, the championships, that much sweeter. If you hated him, it made every time your team beat him that much more impactful to you as a fan.

There will never be another Kobe. Sadness doesn't even begin to describe this. He should have lived to be old and grey, serving as an elder statesman of the game like Bill Russell. The game of basketball has lost a giant and I pray that his wife and surviving daughters can somehow find peace.

Lebron is probably devastated like Kyrie at this. People on here think athletes are robots like they cant feel or something. I saw someone criticize Kyrie for leaving the game to mourn. Lebron and Kobe were like brothers and so was Kyrie. I dont want Lebron to tweet anything nor do i want Kyrie to speak about this. I want them to mourn their lost brother and try to deal with it the best way they can. I dont expect any of them to play the next couple of games. Anybody who was close to Kobe needs to deal with this in their own way.

He was crying when he got off the team plane and I think is pretty devastated... The team hasn't really given a statement either unless I missed it.

I think it must be pretty rough inside the organization right now. Probably harder that for those outside. Might take a while for them do find the right thing to say.

Yup, not to change the subject to much but I can see this completely derailing the season or making the Laker team completely unstoppable trying to win the championship for Kobe.

Kobe's death just hits differently. I always hear things like, "wow, his/her death is unreal. I won't forget this;" but sadly, we normally do. We won't forget Kobe's death. I'm so thankful for his impact, man.

There's a video of him in tears, hugging people after landing from plane. Tweets and such are really not important at all.

How about just letting him mourn.

Normally celebrity deaths dont phase me. My stance is I never met them and people die every day. But this is something different. This has bothered me all day. It just seems so unbelievable.

I remember watching that 81 point game live and tuning in when he made a driving layup midway through the 3rd quarter to give him 61 and realizing I was about to witness something special.

I am a Blazer fan but the Blazers stunk that season so I tuned into Laker games to watch Kobe play because he was absolutely lighting it up that year and it was pure entertainment.

It's hard to believe he is really gone.
