"As an organization, we're devastated. Our players are devastated," Nets coach Kenny Atkinson said. "We have a player [Irving] that's very close to Kobe. Our thoughts and prayers are with him also. Just a tough time for the NBA for all of us."
So he was the only one mourning?!? But what else you can expect...

He was crying when he got off the team plane and I think is pretty devastated... The team hasn't really given a statement either unless I missed it.
I think it must be pretty rough inside the organization right now. Probably harder that for those outside. Might take a while for them do find the right thing to say.

As the game progressed, this board's nightly game thread rapidly grew more and more. Half the board was bitching that he was a ball hog, the other half was marveling in his excellence. That was the effect Kobe had on us all as fans. It was such a fun experience watching the game with whoever was on here that night. Wish I could dig up that old thread.
It's true that Kobe transcended the game of basketball, but he made the game that much more meaningful to all of us. If you loved him, it made all the wins, the accolades, the championships, that much sweeter. If you hated him, it made every time your team beat him that much more impactful to you as a fan.
There will never be another Kobe. Sadness doesn't even begin to describe this. He should have lived to be old and grey, serving as an elder statesman of the game like Bill Russell. The game of basketball has lost a giant and I pray that his wife and surviving daughters can somehow find peace.
