The pilot obviously made some mistakes and the word is “vilify” has nothing to do with being a villain but means to speak disparagingly about someone. Now with new information given that Kobe and the pilot may have been close It’s probably more than likely that they both had discussions about whether to fly that day or not. I also don’t think Kobe would allow a pilot he didn’t have great confidence in to fly his children and family in.

I'm not going to argue semantics (even though you're wrong). The point is that the Helicopter crashed on a mountain. That's pilot error regardless of how you spin it. Does it make the pilot a "bad guy"? no. Is he responsible for the crash? yes.

I don't think anybody believes the pilot is a "villain". I'm pretty sure he didn't fly into a mountain by purpose, but I'm also sure he made several errors which caused this terrible tragedy. This one is on the pilot. The pilot made the call to fly despite the whether conditions and the pilot made the mistakes which led him to crash against a mountain.

It doesn't matter what the passenger says it's up to the pilot to fly or not. If lapd wasn't flying their chopper neither should he. I do blame pilot error (fog and he forgot to consider their may be hills to the right and left of him (not just straight ahead)) but will be happy to correct post if ruled mechanical.

Again you have no idea what was discussed amongst Kobe and the pilot whom he trusted or what happened in regard to decision making up there. Leave it at that

Only three league MVP's since it's inception in 1956 have died. Wilt, Moses, and now Kobe.

I don’t know if it’s appropriate timing for this topic. But I’m thinking about Nike and their business ties with his shoe line. Obviously, Kobe had royalties for all the sales including all the upcoming Protro releases. Is it possible that Vanessa and her family have compensation/annuities for these future sales? I know that many companies have survivor annuities in the case of a spouse’s death.

I’m seeing a lot of Nike advertisements for his shoes popping up unexpectedly (along with an absurd markup in price for his shoes on StockX), and it’s leaving a sour taste in my mouth.

Have some class.

Not sure why the statement needs "defense" and not sure what this has to do with "class". It's just an observation. Unlike his basketball career, Kobe put his life in the hands of a pilot that he (probably) knew nothing about his flying skills. It ended up killing him.

Not sure what offends you about this observation, but I guess when you're looking be offended, you can take offense at anything and everything.

It was Kobe's private pilot. People said Kobe refused to fly with anyone but him.

This was one of his previous pilots. Stands to reason he's had a few over the years...

And I mean, dude made mistake... I make countless mistakes a day. Almost none of them have any effect on anyone else's life.
But his did. It killed him and unfortunately everyone with him.
But it was a mistake. Why he made that particular mistake, at that particular time, with those particular people on board... That's up to God.

It's 3:30 PM here at work and it's very quiet. I'm wearing a Purple shirt. I have coworkers who are Clipper fan and one's a Warrior fan and both are wearing Laker colors to show support. We fist bumped this morning but didn't say a word the entire day. Normally this is a trash talking day between us but today is a day of solidarity and mourning.

That's a crazy fact. The fact that the Bobs Pettit and Cousy, and Bill Russell, outlived Kobe Bryant is insane, and very tragic.

How many pilots do we have on here that have flown the same type of helicopter?

Don't point any fingers, but you can always question why they didn't just land in burbank, and take a car from there. There is a lot of why's but it happened. It is horrible, hurts, and a lot of people are devastated with this tragedy.

So why did the police ground it's helicopter fleet?

In any case, every version of the story comes down to pilot error. Tragic and fatal.

Different area and the fog was dissipating pretty much everywhere except that spot for some reason explained that I don't remember. The pilot made a judgement call in real time that works out 9/10 times. I personally don't blame him.

9/10 is not good enough... I wouldn't take a trip in which I would die 1/10 times. There is no way you don't blame the pilot on this one. It was on him.

We don't even totally know why they crashed. Have there been any reports of exactly what caused the crash? You're sitting here blaming the pilot, but has mechanical failure even been fully ruled out yet?

I'm honestly not 100% certain that the fog alone is enough to worry about causing this crash. A modern helicopter of that quality has autopilot functions and a myriad of instrumentation that should feed back enough information to avoid becoming so disoriented that you crash.

A lot of time heavy fog conditions ground flight do to the possibilities of mid-air collisions rather than pilot disorientation.

Yeah. Oscar, Willis Reed, and Unseld as well still alive. I remember when Wilt died in 1999 at only 63. That was a big loss due to relative youth. It was hard to believe that big Wilt could die was a sentiment bandied about in the media/press. Nothing even comes close to this since Petrovic/Lewis.

It's not even about that. Honestly she has every right to say whatever she wants. But The Washington Post only has an obligation to defend her in my opinion if she goes through the proper journalistic channels and puts her opinion in a form that The Washington Post approves.

Shaq's opening comments on his podcast:

“We’re worried about you, want to make sure to we check in and you’re doing well”

Shaq: “I’m not doing well. I’m sick. I’m just getting over the death of my sister... I haven’t been sleeping since Ayesha’s death.”

He follows up it with how he found out, with his son Greg showing him the TMZ headline

Shaq: “I yelled at Greg and said ‘Yo man, get that **** out my face. Get it out of my face”

I actually think it's the opposite. Journalism is a thankless profession, and yet it's a profession which is so crucial in society which doesn't get the respect it deserves.

I don't think they are over-protected enough, where people in power constantly manipulates the media to spin the story to fit their agenda, it's the journalist who actually seek out the honest truth, who get racked through the coals by online trolls and the media because it doesn't align with their own spin.

Now, that goes without saying, there are the journalists and people in the media who seek the truth the right way, but like any other profession, there are those who take short cuts or are influenced or pushed into a certain direction, which just further muddles the truth.
Why so serious?
