If that’s the case I’m thankful because any mills trade is likely terrible. Rather just stay the course and tank it out the rest of the way. Season is already a lost cause

So, most likely it's that his contract isn't being extended, which Mills sees as writing on wall that he's fired.

But, since it's the Knicks, there is always more misery and incompetence to be extracted from any situation.

Mills is told his contract isn't being extended or renewed BUT for the first time in his life has one or two trades set up that nearly everyone in here would like, but was told by Dolan he'd prefer "no trades that might handicap a new regime" so Morris and Portis don't get traded For Schroeder\Harkless and a Clippers pick.

Well, not sure that's a universally liked pair of trades, but you get the idea.

To top it off? The "new regime" winds up being Alan Houston and Perry.

and my Perry, you mean Mills with one of these on.

No, that Mills would get forced out, Houston would replace him, but being the Knicks, they'd do something dumb like keep Perry as GM to "help" Alan Houston

I bet it was the deal for Schroeder with Knox going out. And maybe DSJr.

I bet Houston was one of the people in the org that likes Knox, plus the perspective that "assets" need to be saved for the "next GM/POBO" (what Houston is whispering to Dolan)

Mills is "POBOing" for his life, so you'd see him trade a young player for a PG. Considering that Mills has been trying various PG's out with Perry (Burke/Mudiay/DSJr/Payton) you have to think that Mills and Perry see their "vets" as "one good PG away from making a run in the playoffs" which they see as saving their job.

Mills never liked Frank. Neither did Perry. They tried Burke, but he wasn't good. They tried Mudiay and Got DSJr in the trade and neither has been good. Frank hasn't been good. Payton is meh.

Now, if they were willing to take on a PG who was signed for a few years, they could have gone for Rubio or other guys, but Perry won out with his "Payton is good/it's one year argument" and Mills would have been fine with it if Payton turned out to be good and the rest of the roster, but Payton wasn't and the roster sucked so Mills wresting complete control away from Perry and trying to make moves to buy some more time to throw Perry under the bus, live another day.

That's why all the rumors for Drummond and Schroeder. Because they are leaks from other teams about deals Mills is trying to make to save his ass.

Mills was upset because he asked for 5-year, 30M extension and he only got 4-year, 20M.

Mills maybe had a trade for D'Angelo Russell and Dolan said no.

Two things I want by the deadline:

- D-Lo or Schroder. D-Lo preferably as long as none of our picks, Mitch or RJ are involved. We need a competent guard.
- Knox and Payton gone.

So is Porzingis just better without Luka or is Luka overrated and a ball hog?

Or is it just a lucky stretch from KP?

KP has just been awesome tonight. It's nothing we didn't see him do in a Knicks uniform though - it's his ceiling rather than his baseline. He flashes it now and then, sometimes for a few weeks on end.

The Luka question is certainly interesting though. I'm enjoying its existence.

I'd take Ball Hog Luka of their hands for sure.

Maybe we can send randall, morris and 2 dallas picks back to them. KP and Tommy have worked out well for them so why not.

This would almost be a wise move for Dolan. Let major moves and franchise direction be handled by the next GM. I would still want D Lo though

I like it. Iggy being mad disrespectful to the team thinking he isn't worth their time playing for even though they're actually a playoff contender.

Ja agrees too

The Luka question is certainly interesting though. I'm enjoying its existence.

Most people here should remember all great KP games and the subpar ones. First 2 month of the season vs after that.
Many posters here called him "anemic". Some tried to defend with "rookie wall".

This problem was there. He's no R.Westbrook, Lillard or B.Simmons. Those guys can play for 40+ minutes and then play the back to back game with the same intensity. KP is not that player for sure. In his defense other big men like Embiid isnt healthy all the time. He also looks gassed in many games.

I don't see any solution for KP being anemic. (Medically he's getting his iron but his energy level not going to change much)
In general, you cannot trust KP to do the heavy lifting for 82 games. He won't be your Giannis or Westbrook(OKC).

But this season, I think he's having physical and mental issues due to his return of 2 years absence. Just remember G.Hayward's or P.George's first season after the injury.
When Doncic is out, KP just brings it. He plays with intensity and aggression. In most of the games, KP doesnt want to play in post but when Doncic is out he goes most of those games to win.
I think its a semi-conscious decision. I would do the same if I was Carlisle/Mavs FO.
No need to force KP to perform 100% every night.
That would just create another injury. Mavs shouldnt expect to make beyond the 2nd round in playoffs. So this season should be meshing and developing cohesion season. Just keep KP out of injuries and they should be fine.
KP's defensive presence is elite. Some KP haters posting his shooting numbers here but even when he's shooting bad he make a lot of contribution on defense. He's just an elite rim protector which makes him plus defender overall.

Great take. Agree on 90% of it except anaemia. This season it has not been much of an issue. Rather about getting back after a long layoff and learning to fit in with LD long-term. This is a discussion on this board, which is based on merit and the actual game and is on point. Kudos to you. KP in general (tradewise, impactwise, etc) must be judged at the end of next season.
