I disagree. Spellman’s got a 7’2” plus wingspan, so his standing reach is 9”, which is fine for a 4/5. Because of his width, he plays “bigger” on D—and the wingspan makes him a surprisingly adequate rim protector too. Put it this way—he’s got two inches more standing reach, is 30-35 pounds heavier, and blocks about 50% more shots than JaMychal, who occasionally plays as a small C. Spellman’s big enough to man the 5 for 5-10 minutes a game, and spread the court. This season he's playing 60% at PF and 40% at C. That’s what we want. We don't need a 25 mpg player (unless we move Zu). We need a 10-15 mpg who plays against certain lineups/matchups. Spellman could do that.
Napier is pretty much exactly what we need—a second unit playmaking guard. He’s a career backup; he’s a 15-20 mpg player and a spot starter in case of emergency injury. The things with both of these guys is I suspect they’re available.
