Currently still not cleared to play because of an ACL tear (about 6 weeks should be cleared ish). I could dunk a volleyball at one point idk now though
Anybody have any tips? Im just gonna do pylos and stuff and hopefully thatll work lol. It kinda counts for rehab too
Can't remember the exact timeframe, but my friend who's 5'11" trained for a few months and was able to do it. He was in his early 20s at the time. Wasn't coming off surgery tho lol...
And maybe not the smartest idea to try *because* you're coming off surgery? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
seems like a few years ago some 6 footish SI writer in his early 40's set out to dunk and wrote a whole piece on it? And I think maybe Mark Cuban tried something similar?
I know that in high school I devoted a ton of time and energy into it because I desperately wanted to dunk in a game. But I couldn't consistently palm a basketball and definitely couldn't do it off a drive and as exclusively a one foot leaper getting up there with two hands proved impossible for me. But I kept at it and at it. Could tip dunk but with the least authority imaginable. And I'm 6'3" with a long wingspan so you have to understand I was a terrible athlete.
I wish UniBro luck in this endeavor. At this point it's been a decade or more since I as much as touched the rim.
Im 6ft so my reach us somewhere at 7ft10 to 8ft, since i have them small asian hands i need to get a prolly a foot higher than the rim to dunk (i used to be able to get my wrist to it and was consistentlt like a few inches away, i could dunk a volleyball though)
My genetics are odd. I suck in terms of trying to get stronger and the acl tear has pretty much crushed any hopes and dreams of trying to increase my squat (and it sucks right now anyway lol). I was really uncordinated and not athletic at all till like 10th grade where i did a pylo program (altho in hindsight it wasnt all that good, i peaked at week 4) and got my vert from 20 inches to like 28 inches, and over just started to play basketball it peaked at around 32-33. But my completely lack of ability to build strength even pre injury didnt help when i tried to start lifting weights, altho tbf i wasnt very good at being consistent or with my diet. I never did get coordinated at all though and my running two foot jump is pretty bad compared to it standing which I think is a genetic thing more so than actual vert.
Im kinda banking on pylos maybe bringing my spring back and that i have some tightness or something that can be fixed and help it skyrocket, and in hoping my body responds like it did when i first started
Right now im 5 days in (morning of the fifth day) and Im not really sure where im at because i havent tested out my max, but my two foot vert def seems like its gone up a bit but not by much. The main improvement seems like its just way more effortless to jump but idk if my max got that much better. My inability to get stronger and tbh being asian lmao makes me feel that I might be screwed tho.
Either way the only way im gonna end up dunking will probably be off of one foot and im gonna test that out today lol.
Prolly not the best idea to expect results in 5 days lol. Also fun fact if you overexaggerate your strides for an hour or two your temporarily vert goes up 4-5 inches for a day the next day, altho in my experience while it did work i also tore my acl then lol so don’t try it
