with melo right behind perhaps
cp3, melo, and taj as vets is not a bad look. sure, it sounds like it's 10 years late because it actually would've been a pretty good team back then, but i legitimately don't mind having those dudes be the 3 veteran leaders of an otherwise young knicks squad. way way better than payton, portis, and randle. remember what a few months of even someone like deandre jordan was like?
cp3 is still legit playing all-star basketball. the other 2 no. but trading for him would put the knicks out of the 2021 free agent race. it would be fascinating to see if they would actually do that. and also if okc would even want compensation. i would rather just tank for a couple more years but i think that's out now. i understand rose's thinking if he does this. we're not attracting anyone in 2021, it's too soon, so why not make the team good first and put off free agency til 2022.
if the trade sends out randle, and if melo comes on a friendly deal, we're in a similar place financially after portis, payton, ellington, etc expire. the key is still, of course, to draft intelligently in the next 2 years
