I work in IT and our dept has been instructed to work remote indefinitely, unless you're helpdesk and have to be on site for other users. Anyone with a laptop company wide is being told to WFH. Massive undertaking for our department, we have to figure out resources, permissions, even documentation for the things we are about to do. Ooof its going to get worse before it gets better.

I wonder how the internet companies are gonna handle all this bandwidth if people WFH en mass like this.

Yeah my dept is working from home on alternating days with a team on site that's 1/2 of us and one offsite that's the other half, with groups kind of cross trained so someone capable is always there for any activity.

And there's really not a massive amount of WFH everyone can do, so after so long no idea how it's going to go. Most of my stuff I can do, so I'm fine, but don't really get it. Honestly it's gonna be another week and full lockdown I'd guess.

Yeah far too individualist compared to China and aspects such as values, family system and specially respect for the elderly are far different

This has been so horribly mishandled. And it's really not even that shocking, but at every turn it's awful and there's no accountability for it (also not shocking).

A lot of Gen Zs/younger milennials are not taking this seriously at ALL. I just can't quite figure out what kind of mindset it takes to see what is happening in the country and the world right in front of them and ignore it.

I wonder if it has to do with how modern-day media/social media makes it to where it seems like the sky is falling on a daily basis. For as long as social media has been around, people are bombarded with messages about how THIS IS THE WORST THING EVER, so you get desensitized to it.

Now that there's a real threat, said young people aren't going to take it seriously, because they've heard about threats and stuff for their entire lives.

I have no idea if this is true or not, I'm just talking out of my ass.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. That combined with our generations' general apathy is a recipe for disaster.

My wife went to hospital with a fever, shortness of breath and incredibly bad body aches (she could barely speak/move) in general.

Her family also live with us, and her dad has had every health problem imaginable, and almost died from the flu last year.

Luckily, she got discharged and the tests revealed her to be coronavirus negative. But damn, what a fright.

Australia hasn't been hit too badly with the virus yet, and I don't think there have been any recorded cases in my suburb, but I'd love to see proper mitigation tactics in place. I work in the CBD, meaning I have a 45 minute train ride after getting to the station AND go to a busy area, yet I'm still expected to work in the office rather than home. Obviously, my wife being quarantined throws a spanner in the works here (in a good way) but still... kind of wish more was done.

At this point, we're still struggling with toilet paper availability and physical altercations at our local shopping centres. :nonono:

Good luck everybody - hope we all leave this conundrum well, and sooner rather than later.
I use a lot of parentheses when I post (it's a bad habit)

We are closing on a house on 4/15 :o

I am pretty nervous about it with everything going on but we both work jobs that can 100% be done remotely, and I was already working remotely for my company as they're based out of Minneapolis. It has been mildly funny watching the rest of my company go fulltime to WFH and how they're all adjusting to it.

One of my coworkers/friends just had an offer accepted on a house and it seems like the situation has cooled off the market significantly in Minneapolis. I'm sure you're aware of how nutty the Minneapolis housing shortage is, but the house they put an offer in only had 3 offers in. My friends that bought a house last year probably put in about 20 offers on houses before they finally got an acceptance and every house had 10+ offers. Anecdotal but you guys might have a good opportunity to buy right now.
