Regarding the 1,200 stimulus check... my wife explained to me today that this is merely an advancement of next years tax return and not really string-free money. Meaning on next years tax return you would get 1,200 less (or have to pay 1,200 more), example being if you were otherwise supposed to get 1,500 you would only get 300. Is this true?

The other thing I should have mentioned is that influenza is of course already endemic in the general Australian community and in Western nations in general, with pretty much everyone having had past exposure to some variety/varieties of that virus.
Got you. Also just wanted to confirm that what I stated was not that the said vaccine batches are different depending countries (developed/underdeveloped). But that the vaccine batches here are different and are applied depending on the type of medical insurance you have. Like a you get what you paid for distribution.
Yes, I forget the differences between the Australian and US medical systems. Certainly not based on health insurance status here.

It isn't an advance and it isn't taxable.

Entirely not true. She probably fell for something she saw on Facebook.
Regarding their delivery, most major banks and credit unions should have it in the next 2 days (many already do), so if you have your bank account linked to your IRS forms, you will get it shortly. If you don't have an account hooked up, it is going to be quite a while as they are apparently sending out 5 million a week starting in 2-3 weeks (lowest incomes getting theirs first for the mail outs).
I'll be curious if people start getting their $600 UI boosts with their claims tomorrow though.

Re: Semi-OT: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Discussion Thread
Two small studies on anti-malarial drugs have found the drugs to be of minimal help, and also to cause serious heart complications. Both studies included patients that were already sick enough to be hospitalized.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0399077X20300858?via%3Dihub
The study in New York that includes using anti-malarial drugs on people with the coronavirus who are less sick is still ongoing:

Chloroquine is similar to hydroxychloroquine, the drug Trump has repeatedly touted. Health experts have insisted that not enough is known about either drug to determine its efficacy in combating COVID-19.
The Brazilian study included 81 hospitalized patients, with about half being given a dose of 50 milligrams of chloroquine twice daily for five days. The other participants were prescribed a dose of 600 milligrams for 10 days.
Patients taking higher doses experienced heart arrhythmias, or improper beating of the heart, within three days, according to the study. Eleven patients died by the sixth day of treatment and caused the research on high-dosages to end.
https://thehill.com/policy/international/492460-small-chloroquine-study-stopped-after-irregular-heart-beats-detected-in
At the time of treatment initiation, 10/11 had fever and received nasal oxygen therapy. Within
5 days, one patient died, two were transferred to the ICU. In one patient, hydroxychloroquine
and azithromycin were discontinued after 4 days because of a prolongation of the QT interval
from 405 ms before treatment to 460 and 470 ms under the combination. Mean through
blood concentration of hydroxychloroquine was 678 ng/mL (range: 381-891) at days 3-7 after
treatment initiation.
Repeated nasopharyngeal swabs in 10 patients (not done in the patient who died) using a
qualitative PCR assay (nucleic acid extraction using Nuclisens Easy Mag®, Biomerieux and
amplification with RealStar SARS CoV-2®, Altona), were still positive for SARS-CoV2 RNA in
8/10 patients (80%, 95% confidence interval: 49-94) at days 5 to 6 after treatment initiation.

The study in New York that includes using anti-malarial drugs on people with the coronavirus who are less sick is still ongoing:
The NYU Langone Medical School is conducting ten different trials of potential coronavirus therapies. One of them is evaluating whether hydroxychloroquine can prevent people exposed to the novel coronavirus from getting sick. That study began last week, according to officials.
[ . . .]
"Participants will take the drug hydroyxycloroquine for 14 days and we ask them to stay in the study for 28 days so we can follow them a little after they've taken the drug,” said Dr. Anna Bershteyn, a co-principal investigator for NYU Langone said.

They overreact with people potentially catching the virus at an outdoor sporting event or any activity outdoors. The issue is indoor places where fresh air doesn't come in and the bad air can't escape. I can understand being at an indoor basketball or an indoor hockey game when your indoors. But Football, baseball, golf and tennis are played outdoors where fresh air is always available and any bad air goes up into the sky away from people possibly being infected. The only indoor area at an outdoor sporting event is the restrooms but we can still social distance in the restrooms if need be.
But we do need to get the economy/country back up and try to get as many things back to normal. Things like dining in at a restaurant that should come back right now. But large gatherings shouldn't comeback yet. I think Gym's can re-open like LA fitness that I go to. It would be great to get LA fitness back and compete with people on the basketball court. I need to get back LA fitness, bodysurfing, dining in at restaurant, sporting events.

As of right now we got 4% death rate in NY and that's with people being isolated in home for the most part. You really want to let people out? Do you understand what you talking about?
Capitalistic economy always has defaults and crisis at some point of a tenure. It's just this time around, this economic bubble that been created by government with all the consumption came to the point it was unsustainable to cover. Sending out people to work ain't solving the main issue. All it does is, it kills working class people who drive economy. If anything you commiting mass genocide. You know how expensive and hard to create quality working class?

Care to expand on your theory of “bad air” magically goes up into the sky? I cannot for the life of me comprehend why you think that gyms should reopen. Gyms are a place where people are sweating, touching equipment constantly, and in proximity to other people. Your post is filled with so many atrocious and unfounded ideas, it’s hard to believe.

Large gatherings shouldn't come back but you want outdoor sporting events and other outdoor events back? Those are large gatherings on a much bigger scale. Coachella and other festivals are outdoor events. That doesn't mean it's a good idea to schedule these festivals for any time soon just because you have a hunch about fresh air.

This.
Gym's would be notorious for the spread, idk why that dude said LA fitness etc should be open wth.
Buy gym equipment, 2nd hand, wipe em down and or buy commercial if you have the cash flow and youre good.

Yep...or go for a jog. Or a bike ride...we're going to have to open businesses eventually. I was at Home Depot this afternoon and everyone was seriously respecting social distancing and the reps were wiping down self service kiosks. This can literally be implemented everywhere.

It looks like it is true, according to the Tax Foundation:
It's a free tax credit of $1200 you otherwise wouldn't have gotten. Read the last paragraph - it will only work in your favor, and you won't be taxed more because of it. It's set up this way so that people who are not eligible for the check based on their 2019 (or 2018) income can still remain eligible based on their 2020 income (which will be reported as a part of the 2020 tax return next year).

Nothing is taken out of money you would have otherwise gotten or will get. The only discrepancy is that if you made over 75K, you will only receive a portion of the $1200 (at 100K+ I believe you get nothing).
