If there’s not enough testing then don’t re open facilities. A lot of people have the virus and don’t show any symptoms at all. This is pretty reckless to me.

Just had to put together a covid protection plan for a company I sub from out on the island. Details on procedures and PPE being used to sanitize the jobs when finished. And four questions to be answered every day. Haave you had it. Been around it. Feel symptoms. Have you traveled outside US. NO NO NO NO!! PUT ME BACK TO WORK!!! They are a pretty big company so...they are getting ready to put us back out there...whenever that is. No date was given but...the pause order ends on the 15th so...I assume after that at some point. Best news in weeks for me.

I had no idea you were also an epidemiologist.

Masks gloves hand sani and disinfectant ALL help. Only a 3 man crew and 2 of us live in the same house. I don't have to be around anyone except the guys I work with...and the warehouse we get supplies from. Have to wipe everything down twice. When we get it and after we install it. I am ready for war. This has to end. We can't be expected to stay home forever. Nothing is coordinated enough anyway. This will come back no matter how long we wait. Get the healthcare system fixed!! We slowed it down...we need to get back to work and have the vulnerable stay at home. This is not going anywhere until medicine catches up to it. No matter how long we stay home. Doing irreparable damage to the economy and the dollar itself...which is basically on life support right now. It's been 2 months....for a 14 day incubation period.

I hate to sound mean...but...enough is enough. If we don't know by now who needs protection...really? We know how to fight it on more than 1 front. Masks...gloves sanitizer used properly...disinfectant(no injection)...social distancing....Stay home if necessary. I haven't been working but I've been food shopping...so...it's not a perfect lockdown for most anyway.

How long can we stay locked down?

Sounds like you got things under control with minimal contact. But check this out

As restrictions are loosened, cases go up. Numbers don’t lie. This won’t end until there is herd immunity, through a vaccine or destruction. A vaccine in enough quantities that ends up working is at least a year to a year and a half away.

God speed, man!

Yeah...vaccine up to year and a half away. Herd immunity...even longer. So...you propose stay at home orders until then? That's not even close to realistic. So...why are we waiting?

Maybe more than a month? Till we are on the downside for more than a day? The idea is to space it out.

It’s still too early, imho.

You’ll love this. I just got back from taking my dog to Wantagh Park for a walk On the path. I drive in and there’s a big electric traffic sign saying that social distancing protocols apply at the park.

I get out of my car with my face mask on and, of course, my cool looking athletic prescription shades 8-) and Addidas baseball hat. I’m parked right in front of the boat dock so when we get out we walk onto to sidewalk right there and begin walking. My dog stops us to smell dog urine from one of the lamp posts when these four women in their late 30s/early 40s are walking towards me with no masks on. They could have easily created some space by simply stepping off the sidewalk and onto the adjacent empty parking spaces, but noooooooo. They had to walk directly at me to show that they weren’t going to let my desire for appropriate social distancing interfere with their god-given freedom to do whatever the fck they want. So as they walked past me, I shot The Wingo Death Stare at them. Then the one loud mouth south shore hillbilly turns back at me after they past me and starts giving me an earful. (I couldn’t hear what she was specifically saying to me bc I had Free Falling by Tim Petty on my headset But I had an idea.) So I said “Oh, Trump MAGA whores. Come back and get in my my face without a mask and see what happens to yours!” Fortunately, they kept walking. These fakers are everywhere out here.

75,000 deaths. That's with social distancing. It's a curve, so guess what? That means 75,000 deaths on the come down. Or did we all forget how curves work? Take away NYC, and the country hasn't even flattened it's curve and in fact is still rising. I figure we make it to 250,000 deaths easy. https://erinbromage.wixsite.com/covid19/post/the-risks-know-them-avoid-them. Enjoy all the death!

I would say the split is about 50/50. 1/2 thinks its a hoax the other is taking this seriously. When someone they know gets really sick or (god forbid) dies I expect the naysayers will flip over like a light switch.

I think you're right about the split. But that's way too high imo. These women were so obnoxious. Just flaunting their ignorance in my face. I'm still thinking about it because I can have a quick fuse under the wrong set of circumstances. I told her to come close to me again and I'd spit in her face. That's when they picked up the pace.

I have a number of run-in with these imbeciles over the last two month and beginning to reach my limit.

This is such a bad take. The Democrats didn’t force anything. The Democratic Party voters overwhelming preferred Hillary over Bernie just like they overwhelmingly preferred Biden. There was no forcing. This was not a lesser of two evils situations, this was pure evil against an overwhelmingly qualified woman that’s also a genuinely good person. Donald Trump showed that he was a racist, incompetent, rapist **** before the election. You should be fortunate that you’re in a privileged position to sit out elections. Not the same for all the people who needlessly need to die and have their lives ruined under a Trump Presidency. But hey you sure showed them.

I'm not gonna vote for a candidate I despise, even if it means a person I despise more becomes president. The system is broken. Give me a candidate worth voting for and I'll vote. There is nothing wrong with that logic. You have to expect more from your politicians, Republicans, Democrats, they all suck. Do better. Sure, I was "fortunate" I can sit out elections, whatever that means.
It means your life isn't at stake because of the party in power.

Take away NYC, and the country hasn't even flattened it's curve and in fact is still rising. I figure we make it to 250,000 deaths easy. https://erinbromage.wixsite.com/covid19/post/the-risks-know-them-avoid-them. Enjoy all the death!

And thats just the first wave...get ready for winter and the flu season....

Absolutely.

In any event, to the extent any individual on here might be able to control their circumstances, the link has some data and examples on the situations where the disease is more likely to spread.

So, one is a workplace where people are somewhat concentrated. A cube farm/call center is an obviously bad place. I'd guess traditional trading floors wouldn't be too outstanding either.

Restaurants can definitely be problematic.

Shopping at supermarket has low risk, but not "no" risk for shoppers, but risky for the workers.

Churches and places of worship are straight up a BAD idea. I know I wont set foot in one for at least another year.

Social gathering like birthdays and funerals are top everyday social situations for spreading the disease.

Welp, regardless of the various feelings around civil liberties, without widespread testing and contact tracing, this country is going to have issues. Since we have neither, nor have I heard of a plan for one, along with the government not really systematically dealing with people's employment issues, between massive returns to work and substandard testing and tracking, lots of Americans are going to die. I mean, a lot already have. Just a significant amount more.

Would people have died anyway? Yes. Would the economy have taken a hit anyway? Yes?
Could the federal government been more organized and proactive in it's response to lessen both? Well, I think it's pretty clear you have to be drinking a special kind of cool-aid to think they've done a good job.
