I doubt he'll be available at 15.
Curious if the Magic like him enough to move up into the lottery.
That was the comp that popped into my head as well. Similar size and athleticism. I like Hayes' ability to distribute the ball a bit more than Russell's. His vision looks rather ordinary, but he uses space to create passing lanes that he can take advantage of. The athleticism is what will hold him back though. I don't see the tools there for him to be a highly-efficient finisher. His skill level and understanding is pretty good for his age though.
I like him. I just don't see how we get him and I don't like his fit with Fultz. I think there is a really good chance that he will be gone within the first five picks and I don't see any scenario where he makes it out of the top ten. This draft just isn't talented enough for him to drop.
I think he will become the best player from this draft when it is said and done.
Interesting. He might be someone I'm sleeping on, but I just don't see the talent in him. I've only watched some highlights, but those mostly underwhelm me. It might be because I don't enjoy watching that style of play, but I think in the NBA he'll struggle to keep the kind of separation he needs for his shooting with his limited right hand, not much of a first step, no elite handles or athleticism to compensate.
But also, if the Magic are 'linked' to someone, that's probably a good indicator we won't take them. DSJr, Young, Knox, Simons, NAW - I'm pretty sure we were linked to all of these guys in the past and had done multiple workouts with them, but never picked any of them in the end.
I think Haliburton will surprise people. I don't see star power in him, but his skillset is one of the most complete in the draft. Great shooting numbers (catch and shoot numbers very strong), great handles and vision to get around the court at ease, good defender who plays lanes and gets deflections, grabs a decent amount of boards despite a slim frame. Think Payton/MCW with a 3pt shot. Great glue guy. If Fultz stepped into becoming a lead scorer and not a PG, Haliburton could run point and be a deadly outlet option when Fultz has the ball in his hands.
