I'll use the example of Boston sports teams again. Historically, they have signed/developed some of the most unsavoury professional athletes ever, yet they are consistent winners. It would take truly heinous behaviour to get me to turn on a player.

ya I would understand wanting TD gone if he said some anti-Semitic comments like Stephen Jackson did...but a hole in the mask? he literally gets tested daily for coronavirus...he really doesn't need a mask in the bubble, he's not going to spread a virus that he doesn't have.

Again don't want him gone, just not a fan. It's about the ignorance and anti-intellecutalism, the statement hes using his platform to make. Yeah its better than being racist, but that's not the bar I set. Im not gonna support a guy spouting anti-medical views in the middle of a pandemic.

In making this thread, I really had no idea about his anti-vaxxer science stance and I am pretty disappointed. But he's young and perhaps ignorant of the truth.

I'd hope someone in the organization can take him aside and try and talk some sense into him before we all go full cancel mode on dude. This isn't something to be celebrated, especially when so many in the black community have been affected by COVID.

I don't understand this take. TD is clearly making a statement that the masks are not helpful. This has been a statement by the anti-mask protestors and companies are even selling masks with holes in it to these people.
https://www.wthr.com/article/news/investigations/13-investigates/13-investigates-anti-mask-protestors-turn-to-mesh-yarn-crochet-masks-covid-coronavirus/531-5350260c-d6b1-4bd8-857e-860fe84e0f52

Anti-Semetic comments helps feed the racist views against Jews.

Anti-masks actions (like TD) helps feed the anti-masks views against humanity lol. TD's actions are dangerous, just like anti-semetic views are. Both helps feed an environment that allows dangerous views to exist and be legitimized.

What do these Masks do? They protect me from YOU and vice-versa. Some people still don't get this. The masks are not meant to protect you from the virus. The masks are meant to help significantly reduce the opportunity for you to spread the virus to some one else (many people are asymptomatic which means they won't even know they have the virus).

Consider that there are over 18,000,000 cases of Covid worldwide and over 690,000 deaths from Covid, the spreading of mis-information and anti-mask rhetoric only hurts the fight to flatten the curve. The majority of people worldwide have been social distancing and making efforts to help reduce the spread of the virus since March and the places where people have taken this seriously have been able to re-open faster as the cases in these areas are low enough to be "manageable".

This is what I don't get with the anti-maskers. They want the freedom to not have to wear a mask, yet the actions they take just prolong the need for everyone to wear masks/social distance. If they had some empathy and sense of community and followed the scientific recommendations then we could all get to a point where these restrictions are lifted earlier. Their wants oppose their actions and that's what happens when you don't understand the science and get caught up in your little facebook groups talking about mah freedoms etc.

To be fair to TD on the masks, what evidence do you have that 'home made' or fabric construction masks help reduce the spread of COVID?

I thought there's scientific debate on this. If the virus is predominantly spread in aerosol form (think an incredibly small mist that hangs in the air), it will pass through those masks. You would need a mask capable of filtering out the virus. Do your pants filter out a fart? Obviously not, that's why you can smell them.

If the virus is predominantly spread through droplets of spittle, then the masks will help.

Hasn't there been a lot of back and forth (from the WHO, CDC and medical officials) on whether home-made masks will help? That's why they weren't required/recommended to start, right? Because, depending on the way the virus is transmitted, they may or may not help.

There is a whole lot of theatrics going on right now. Benches seated 2m apart, why? Just for show? That rubs some people the wrong way, you get that right? He might be protesting herd based psuedo science.

I don't support his anti-vaxxer position (if he holds such a position, I haven't read the OP that brought up that point). That's scientifically un-founded and demonstrably dangerous.

masks were always about stopping YOU from spreading it. not from you getting it.

https://news.northeastern.edu/2020/07/29/face-masks-do-help-stop-the-spread-of-the-coronavirus-but-can-they-help-protect-you-too/

that's the importance of them especially considering the asymptomatic nature of the disease.

and the numbers says it's working. obviously. anyway, i'll leave it at that. there's a covid-thread for that debate.

I mean WHO was anti-mask at one point. BUT this isn't the time to be messing with our team's mojo.

Then again - I was just typing: just put on the mask and keep your opinions to yourself. But that's really not a good attitude either.

The guy makes a couple mistakes and then gets subbed out for the rest of the game. Its hard to play under those curcumstances.

I didn't realize he only played 4 minutes...Nurse has him on a very short leash......Raptors as a team had 21 TOs...you would think TD had 10 of those but he only had 2.

2 turnover in 4 minutes is...not ideal.

Likely he is not doing any damage by putting a hole in his mask right now while being inside the bubble.

However, if his stance stays the same, he'll likely think the same way after the season is done, when he is out in public.

Masks aren't about protecting yourself from getting sick, it's to protect others. If masks are still mandatory and he decides to go out and make his statement while putting others at risk, then I would have a real problem with that.

I am hoping he educates himself while he is inside the bubble and is better for it after the season is over.

U dont need a mask in the bubble literally no ones tested positive so theres no point.

What's crazy is watching TSN and the media made it a big story of a black hockey player on Vegas kneeling for the anthem

Once we somewhat clinch, we need to start cutting Kyle's and Freddies minutes to less then 40 a game. I expect Terrence will make a huge resurgence with that greatly increased playing time. We need to get Kyle and Fred down to 30 or less the next few games to preserve their health. We really do need Terrence's excellent ability to hit the three in the lineup for the playoffs as he is one of the team's purest shooters from that line.

This team doesn't like low character guys. And not giving a crap about your teammates and poking a hole in your mask is a low character move.

It has nothing to do with what he believes, if he can't see what the rest of them believe, what the NBA believes and be a team player off the court... well...

And that's exactly what I would tell him if I were in the Raptors organization. Good to see that made it public that they talked to him.

Looks like Masai and Bobby has set TD straight - the Boss has spoken. Good to see TD compiling. Hopefully he can be more productive on the court now.
