there is no deadline and the recent amendment is you can give them a full 3 year contract extension but it will be more expensive if you did it a year later then what you could have done it now you just have the make up the different in the salary over the extra year missed if that makes sense.

It goes:

90% for 3 years extension
60% for 2 years extension
30% for 1 year extension

but you can still give him 3 years at anytime it just becomes more expensive each year you wait.

Yeah I believe the math works out that way.

He can change sextons contract from 2 years $20 to 5 years $50 with that extension rule.
