That is the question.

If I’m allowed to extend him, I would consider it at the right time. Not sure I’m allowed though, considering I didn’t draft him. How does that work?

Anyone can extend a rookie on there rookie contract

Yes. I think it's a 60% increase over (5?) years if you do it in the second summer.

Is there a deadline to extend players on their rookie deal? I’m guessing I have some time.

Check the extension rules ;-) You have a few options. I think it's end of offseason though.

I just heard wind that he and a number of other rookies around the league have been concerned about their extensions. That's all. Players talk.

there is no deadline and the recent amendment is you can give them a full 3 year contract extension but it will be more expensive if you did it a year later then what you could have done it now you just have the make up the different in the salary over the extra year missed if that makes sense.

It goes:

90% for 3 years extension
60% for 2 years extension
30% for 1 year extension

but you can still give him 3 years at anytime it just becomes more expensive each year you wait.

If he wants to extend Sexton for 3 years, it comes out to $50 (I'm pretty sure, someone can double check my math) with the back pay from waiting two seasons

Which isn't a lot, but it's more than double what he's making now

Yeah I believe the math works out that way.

He can change sextons contract from 2 years $20 to 5 years $50 with that extension rule.
