Jays vs Red Sox August 7-9(?)
Christ, Vladdy grounding out every at bat is frustrating.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Let’s see if Roark can last an inning.

I didn't expect the offense to be so pathetic. It's hard to put runs up without a couple of big bats in the 3-4 spots and evidently Tellez and Guerrero are not it.

Its sad state of affairs when Tellez has been marginally better of the two. Vladdy has been a bust.

Must admit that I understand this lineup even less than the one before it. Vlad has started to have good PAs in the last few games, so he gets dropped to sixth. 0 for 2 with 2 walks is enough to drop Tellez from 4th to 8th. Lineups aren't that important in the grand scheme (you want to maximize the number of PAs your good hitters receive, but it's not a huge number), but Montoyo's are just weird.

**** your asterisk.

Gotta look like you’re doing something.
I miss Gibby.

Re: Jays vs Red Sox August 7-9(?)
The strange thing is that, as best I can tell, part of his goal is to get a left-hander of some variety in the middle of the order to break up the righties.
Our RHB have a better OPS against RHP than our LHB do right now.

I would want Montoya to try this lineup.
1) Hernandez
2) Biggio
3) Gurriel Jr.
4) Bichette
5) Guerrero Jr.
6) Shaw
7) Jansen
8) Grichuk
9) Tellez

Kay's sitting 95-96 today and his curveball looks fairly snappy.

These base running mistakes are painful to watch with the team already struggling to do anything offensively.

Re: Jays vs Red Sox August 7-9(?)
Small note about Vlad: while his launch angle still sucks, his hard-hit rate and exit velo are up, and both were already pretty good last year. He entered today in the 88th percentile in average exit velocity, and 77th percentile in hard-hit.
He doesn't even need to hit moonshots. If he can merely hit the ball with a league-average launch angle, we'll be able to drop all of this "is Vlad really a good prospect" stuff.

Hatch, Borucki, and Kay all look terrific right now.

Re: Jays vs Red Sox August 7-9(?)
It's too bad Hatch gave that up but the biggest positive to me so far has been how good the Kay/Borucki/Hatch trio has looked. Latter is having some issues with command a bit but the non-Pearson young pitchers looking this good is a huge thing going forward. Small sample of course.
It's kind of nuts considering how relatively bad things looked on the pitching side just 1 year ago.
