thebuzzardman wrote:As far as the "Biden is old\senile\losing it", like all good propaganda\disinformation, there is an element of truth. Biden IS old. Probably older than what we, as a people, should want for the mental and physical challenges of the presidency. He has some gaffs, but are they more than anyone of any age? Not so sure. Let's say, yes, he gaffs more than younger people. What about Trump? That guy is a highlight reel of gaffs. Yet for all that, Biden is, what, 4 years older than that paragon of health and physical fitness, the Cheeto Jesus?
My fairly moderate republican friend spouts this take. And he's come to hate Trump.
My SON says it, and I'd say he's aggressively moderate.
Because there is a kernel of truth in it.
The playbook is this:
Take all Trump's faults - the lack of respect for women, the mental decline, the racism and project and inflate them on Biden.
The target isn't Trump supporters. They are in the bag for Trump no matter what.
The target isn't Republican voters, they are voting for Trump anyway. Maybe a few stay home.
The target is middle road independents. If you paint both candidates as "the same guy" - misogynistic, old, racist, then X amount of independents (the hope by the operatives) say "Oh, I guess I'll vote Republican this time after all" since "both guys are the same"
I guess the target is also progressive democrats in an attempt to peel off votes by making them opt out
Clearly there is an attempt to move some female suburban voters back into the republican column, but I think they fall under "middle road independents"
This isn't some defense of Biden as the greatest choice.
It IS pointing out what the fairly obvious campaign trick is going on.
nah. your friend and son are probably working for the KGB. seriously though, of course there is an element of truth to all those faults. they wouldn't be able to effectively project and inflate them on biden if there wasn't a basis for it in his record and actions. he will just have to dedicate a decent part of his message to pointing out the differences. the fact that this will need to be done for a 2nd straight election with a candidate as uniquely bad as trump is unfortunate. it's up to him to make the case for himself and hash out the ways he would be better than trump. if he can't do it, the loss is squarely on the shoulders of the dems for nominating him and missing what should have been another layup. nobody is going to entertain blaming russians again. however if trump loses I fully expect him to try to blame china in the same fashion and portray biden as a chinese agent for 4 years. the days of accepting a loss at face value are pretty much over in this hyper partisan environment
