The Expanse books are better than Game of Thrones too. The first one (of seven) is Leviathan Wakes, but there are some shorter prequels covering evens referenced in Leviathan Wakes. The writing is crisper with fewer cliches than you will find in George R.R. Martin's books.
You have to pay for the books, but the TV series is free if you have Amazon Prime.

Yeah I did. Ending left me a little dissatisfied but overall it was good because it was so well-acted.
